Time travel to 1957 and my Mom looked at the teenagers in our front room. The guys had tight jeans that they never wanted to wash. They had greasy hair slicked back into a “duck ass” with a waterfall three-fingered- pulled in the front. The girls were shortening their skirts to mid-calf inches below the knee and poodle skirts were all the rage with saddle oxfords and bobbie sox. Rock and roll was blasting from 45RPM records. After school the kids gathered to watch Spin and Marty on Disney and the boys oogled Annete’s sweaters. Then they turned American Bandstand on the TV and cleared our front room furniture to dance. All teens seemed to be interested in was hot rods and rock and roll. Scholars were squares from nowheresville and everything was bongos and “Like cool, Daddy-o” My Mom knew that mankind was aiming to go to the moon one day, but the kids today were brainless!!!
Each generation has their youth that the adults look at and wonder what this world is coming to.
@Weenis Socialism and Communism is where they want to go. I guess they like the idea of starvation and not having food on shelves in the markets. In Venezuela, starving people resorted to eating pets and then all the zoo animals. People are scavenging through trash for bits of food around the houses of the rich in government.
I visited Russia in 1992 with a Baha’i group (the Marion Jack Expedition) and found conditions under Communism to be bleak. Standing in long lines for rations of potatoes. All the general population were given to eat was potatoes. After 3 months of eating potatoes and starving, I returned to the United States. I was happy to eat a juicy steak. I don’t care for potatoes. The taste of them reminds me of the starvation of eating only potatoes for 3 months. In the three months I was there, the government handed out squares of toilet paper only once. Each person in line received 10 squares off of a roll to take home to their household. That was a rich day that I got to use one square from our household’s ration of toilet paper that month.
I don’t want to see Socialism and Communism here in America.
Thank goodness Generation Z is on the ball. Another term I like to call them, The Katniss Generation. These kids were raised on Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. The don’t know a world pre-911. They have lived their entire lives under the threat of terrorism; they’re seeing alliances crumble, and messages of hate are plastered all over their social media platforms. News sources bring them graphic images of war-torn countries, along with constant reports of people getting shot or dying randomly and tragically.
Since the Parkland shooting, we have seen Gen Katniss’ rise up. Many of the Parkland students are getting death threats and lies spread about them all over the internet. This doesn’t scare these kids. They are determined to make their world a better place. Whether you agree with them or not, you have to admire the fearlessness they are showing the world.
There’s absolutely nothing admirable about what Generation Z is doing, yet you worship them.
What they’re doing, and society is allowing them to do, is an indictment against our society.
This is a feelings based, emotionally driven generation. They’re thoughtless, racist, illogical, but sure, they’re driven by some odd definition of “love”.
But you don’t care, or understand, or even want to think about it.
I await your glib, unfunny meme, love wins, youtube video response.
Whoooooh! I listened to that whole podcast !!!! Yeah, the going phrase that most people use to put you down and totally disrespect what points you have to make is, “racist”.
I get it even in my Baha’i community. We were discussing broken homes where the father left the mother to raise her children alone. I mentioned that my next door neighbor was having this difficulty raising her baby and teenagers all alone, after her alcoholic husband had to be cast out of their household (for spousal abuse). Suddenly, out of nowhere, I was called a racist. Everything nowadays is being called “racist”. You cannot have a discussion without the other person summing up the problem as a “racist” problem. I even pointed out that single motherhood is not a race. I was not telling her story to put her down. My Baha’i friends wanted to help someone and I pointed out a someone that needed help —– perhaps in child care for the baby. —– Oh, but I got pushed aside as a “racist”. Excuse me? The mother is a Native American and I am mostly Native American. How is my bringing up a mother’s difficulty racist? So, the Baha’is rustled up a mere box of food and patted themselves on the back that they helped someone. I just threw up my hands and gave up on them. If Immortal Pirate and I see that the mother next door needs help, we pitch in and help her ourselves. Discussion with the younger people will end with them throwing up a brick wall with the word, “racist” that covers subjects that have nothing to do with race.
Like I said, an almost conversation. And keep in mind, this is between two liberals. But it’s absolutely insane.
I think this is the best summation of the discussion between Harris and Klein-
Summary: Sam: “1+1=2”; Ezra: “But you have to consider my feelings, my politics, history, racial inequality and the social context of 1-ness and 2-ness, and you didn’t do that.” Sam: “But apart from that, 1+1 is 2, right?” Ezra: “Well, but racism, Murray’s politics, history…”
@ladybarbara I am not retired, and I don’t have 2 hours to listen to a podcast. You should be able to explain why you are pointing out that they are “Jews”.
How about everytime you respond on this I say, “Ha! She’s old!” Or, “Ha! She’s white!”
@Gina Listen to the video and it will be told to you. If you are too lazy, or too busy, then you will never know what they had to say and that they pointed out that they are both Jewish. If you did not listen to the video conversation, then you are not informed on the conversation.
As usual, your point was co cut me down and belittle me. That is always your style. You go for my throat every time I have something to say.
@ladybarbara I work full-time, tend to a vegetable garden, and I volunteer in my community. This week I am coordinating and hosting two different volunteer events. Yeah, I’m lazy.
A retired lady can’t take the time to explain why she lumped a whole group of people into a sentence. Not all Jewish people are the same, just as not all 80 year old retired women with Native American in their blood are the same.
There are many times I could “go for your throat” and I just ignore you.
@Gina Because they were two men and they said that they were BOTH Jewish. That does not lump ALL groups of men as Jewish. It was only TWO men talking and they SAID we are both Jews.
Try listening to the video before you rip me apart.
The Ha! Was a chuckle and then saying they are both Jewish was repeating what they said about themselves. Having spent most of my life being
jewish, I found the banter between two Jews to be an amusing thought because of the subject that Weenis had just pointed out to me —— in his conversation with ME!
@ladybarbara I have never heard you refer to yourself as Jewish. My partner is Jewish and she never refers to Jewish people as “Jews” in mixed company. And considering who you were talking to, and they were both liberals it sounded……., It’s all about context.
@Weenis I remember shit that is posted here and at Soulpancake. Barb has laughed at memes her boyfriends posts that are extremely racist. So don’t talk to me about racial divisiveness.
@ladybarbara You still haven’t answered me. What does these two guys being Jewish have to do with anything? You whine about being called a racist, well maybe if you didn’t say things that sound racist you wouldn’t be called that.
@Weenis I don’t have 2 hours to listen to anybody at the moment. I have enjoyed both of those men in various interviews. I am well informed as to who they are and what they believe.
Explain to me the relevance of the quote, “Ha! They are both Jews!”
We disagree about, well almost everything. BUT, we can agree that we both love our families and we love our homes. You seem to get some satisfaction buggin me, and I do the same for you…so here is another youtube song for you at your request. As Big Gay Al would say, “Thanks for asking!”

Yeah, but I’m looking at my peers.

You’re terrible.
@Weenis Please explain why I am terrible.
@Gina

@Weenis They are exercising their 1st Amendment rights. I guess you only care it when it suits your agenda.
Thoughtless, racist? Where do you get that? I don’t care or understand?
Do you have any friends? I have a feeling you don’t have many true friends.

@Weenis Ha!!!! They are both Jews!
@ladybarbara
Riding-Crops Rock!
@ladybarbara What does that have to do with anything?
@Gina If you bothered to listen to the video then you would know what that has to do with it.
@ladybarbara I am not retired, and I don’t have 2 hours to listen to a podcast. You should be able to explain why you are pointing out that they are “Jews”.

@ladybarbara Nah. There was no good reason for you to shout, “Ha! They are Jews!” I stand by my words.
@Gina I did not SHOUT.
The Ha! Was a chuckle and then saying they are both Jewish was repeating what they said about themselves. Having spent most of my life being

Asserting that Barb is racist is laughable. You’re barking up the wrong tree.
And, by the way, get out of here with your racial divisiveness, we just got over 8 years of Chocolate Jesus racially dividing the country.
@Weenis I remember shit that is posted here and at Soulpancake. Barb has laughed at memes her boyfriends posts that are extremely racist. So don’t talk to me about racial divisiveness.

If you had actually listened to the discussion, you would understand the relevance.
I don’t know why you won’t listen to it, it’s a discussion between two atheist liberals about freedom of speech and thought.
@Weenis I don’t have 2 hours to listen to anybody at the moment. I have enjoyed both of those men in various interviews. I am well informed as to who they are and what they believe.
Explain to me the relevance of the quote, “Ha! They are both Jews!”

No.
Contrary to your own belief, you’re not well informed, and you’re quite ignorant. I’m not going to enable your intellectual laziness.
@Weenis
Intellectual laziness
…more like bullshit-triage.
Thank god for Generation Z!!!!!
@Weenis This generation isn’t scared of you. They won’t back down. Here is my youtube response per your request. Thanks for asking!

Sam Harris=Brolosophy
Yesterday was the death-day of Roman Emperor Caracalla. I’m thinking maybe that’s the worst generation evs yo!
Sam Harris doesn’t age! He won Star Search in 1984, and he still looks good.
