No. When I was single and not in a relationship, all the men I dated were rude and real assholes. So, although I was free to go out as much as I wanted to, I stayed home a lot. I’d rather stay home than be with assholes.
Now, I am still single, but I am in a relationship. Life is fun and we go out a couple times a week on dates. Life at home with him is fun and I don’t see a loss of freedom. I prefer to be with Immortal Pirate more than anyone else on Earth.
@ladybarbara I feel that way, too. I do not feel trapped, stuck in my relationship. I think one can feel just as free in a relationship as long as they realize they don’t have to be there. it is a choice.
It depends on what you consider to be free. Sure you can date/ other activities, but on what are your standards to do so? For instance, i’m single, but don’t drive/ host/ am VERY tight on money which makes things very… interesting to date.
@Jear77 many who live in bigger cities do not drive. I don’t think I would date someone who was dating me for the money I made. My last first date was for a walk in the park.
Single person can more easily live free of obligation to anything except themselves.
Which is not always a good thing; because true meaning in life comes from carrying a load of responsibility, and having purpose greater than just self.
Living in Intimate Relationships means more weight to carry but also double the people to carry the weight.
@Scarlett
My experience has been that the burden of duty and responsibility to another can be imperceptibly light when everything is going as it should.
It can even buoy us up and strengthen us.
Conflict and adversity tend to remind us of the weight we carry for others.
More free, but missing a lot. As when you are married, you have to consider their will, not just your own.
So, not free to always have someone you can depend on, who will always be there for you… which is missing something major.
You do say “relationship”, however, I do believe, everyone should have significant relationships. I tend to have smaller groups of friends, but deeper relationships with those I do have, over life. I do not want temporary friends, and am very fortunate to have lifelong friends.

@griz interesting! I think I know what you mean, but I do not feel a state of obligation right now. I feel in a state of creative flow.
