in the story of eight men out- members of the Chicago black sox allegedly threw the world series for profit. My question to you: if the allegations are true, did those men have a love for the game?
Banning- should players who commit perceived immoral acts be banned from the game for life?

You have to understand the context of the situation.
You have the players who do in fact love the game, being used by ownership.
Ownership is making some serious money in those days and the players are just chattels. At some point they start thinking “wtf?” Why aren’t we getting a piece of this action? If we aren’t going to be offered it’ let’s just take it.
As always, momentum takes over and things swing way past the centre. It will swing back eventually, but not before fan disillusionment will just say f-it!
That may be a while because baseball is an awesome game. The games within the game are fantastic. When you learn to watch for those inner games, it takes on a whole new level of excitement. Its a game where moments are important and you have to be ready if you want to catch those moments,.
There is an interesting situation going on right now where owners are playing a game. A very good player has reached the beginning of the end of his career. His pride has dictated that he wanted a certain plateau of compensation to reflect his value in comparison to his peers. He is not very well liked by fans, other than those who supported his team. We loved his aggressive focus on getting the job done.
But baseball is business. Salary caps make it hard to retain a high quality player at the expense of bringing in fresh meat. So this guys says, “Oh yeah? I’ll take my chances out in the free market where they might be able to afford me as a contributor” All the other teams say, “No thanks” Its kind of embarrassing for him and he has no choice but to suck it up. He ends up signing for a minor league contract just to stay involved. He will likely be brought up to the “show” at some point but he has been put in his place and sets an example to other players who think they can push the owners around.
Barry Bonds said it best when he talked about his steroid use. Baseball is a business and there is nothing unethical about improving himself as a product to support the business. He is only as good as what he brings to the win column. If owners play the game; he had to play the game and I think he is right.

Arnold Rothstein might not have given the players much of a choice AKA he gave them an offer they couldn’t refuse.
Not a gamer, so have no opinion on how they should be banned.
Gamers love the game, so they are good judges.
As these ppl threw the game, they did not love the game more then cash money.
But, you do not know. Maybe one has a son or daughter with cancer, or who knows what variables.
THERE IS NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!
