If society had a class system that was not based on wealth, and those at the top tier of the class system had the influence that the wealthy do today, what could it be based on that would make society more harmonious? Intelligence? Emotional intelligence? Something else? What say you? Would such a class system be more promotive to upward mobility than our current class system?

A utopian society is nothing more than a fantasy…and that is all it will ever be, an unrealistic fantasy.

@Scarlett many years ago. Vaguely remember it. The problem with such fictitious universes is they don’t hold a candle to the problems and corruption reality has. That’s one of the reasons why I lost faith. Life simply doesn’t work that way.
Every experiment in Utopian reconstructionism has always ended murderously.
That’s because no matter what value is selected as “prime”, humans will naturally vary in competence on the selected value and a hierarchy will form. Approximately 10% of the population at any given time will rocket to the top and dominate (Price’s Law), and roughly 10% will crap out at zero. Everyone else will inhabit a place on the curve, either climbing up or falling down. And it’s rarely the same 10% at the top for any given competency hierarchy; but most of the people at the bottom are stuck there.
This is NOT a social construct, but a bio-evolutionary one. And the perpetual problem with a conscience self aware species, is what to do about the dispossessed?
Numerous experiments with Marxism in the 20th century showed the folly of trying to elevate the dispossessed artificially. Or more accurately, when those who felt they had the compassion (emotional intelligence) to artificially raise them started monkeying with a complex system they did not understand (or want to understand) was simply doing what every complex system does.
The Pareto Effect (quantified by Price’s Law) is an artifact of genetic variance. Trying to Monkey Wrench It just because our feelings don’t like it, always ends in blood. (The testimony of History)
Experiments to eradicate the artifact caused by human variance, inevitably end up deleting human variance (ie, people; and lots of them)
@griz not sure that its so bad for a hierarchy to form if it is based on something other than greed and power, and more easily accessible to get to the top…

Hierarchies are not bad; and they are inevitable.
The spring into existence the moment there is assessed value on anything; because some people are naturally going to “richer” in that thing of value (or have the assets to grow rich in it) than others. That is just evolution hedging its bets. And hierarchies form for EVERY thing of value. Our entire dopamine response (what is out-of-balance when we are depressed) is specially keyed to place us and help maneuver us in these hierarchies.
Power is a problematic one. There’s wisdom in the saying that great leaders don’t seek power but rather, it is thrust upon them. They seem best able to resist the problems inherent in power, with humility. Those who seek power already have a pride and ego problem that will just be magnified by power.
Greed and fear are another pair of problematic ones. And interestingly, most spiritual beliefs in something divine or transcendent tend to have processes for managing these problematic processes.
Our secular economy is essentially based on greed and fear. It would definitely benefit from some spiritual/transcendent tempering.
From my perspective, modern society is based on wealth, however really it is based on wealth of spirit of the world. So, some who are rich are poor in spirit, and many who are not rich in money are rich in spirit of the world.
We who are poor in spirit are the nobodies of this world.
Ours is the Kingdom to come.
Many already live in that Kingdom, hidden on earth, but it is as an oasis in Hell down here.
Which is why the first thing everyone must do is ‘seek first the Kingdom of Heaven’.
Only those who are ‘not of this world’ end up doing that.
As this world is now, it will be taken down. ‘Those rich will be made poor, and those poor will be made rich’.
How will that be? God well described it in the apocalyptic verses in the message of Jesus Christ. ‘The low will be exalted and the high will be brought down’.
However, everyone knows these things.
From my experience, within in us is our “inner self”. That inner self is made beautiful and eternal by God. Right now, if you are pure in heart you can see the beautiful already. But, not yet fully.
I have seen an example of these bodies, and they are absolutely glorious. One can read a description of the one I saw in Revelation, Daniel, and Ezekiel.
The power of that wealth is inconceivably brilliant compared to the worthless ashes of the rich today. Whether they are left in the flesh or also change to some other form of hideousness, I do not know. But either way, they are going to be completely blown away.
This is what will make everything right.
It will not be entirely unlike how it was: the wealthy had their time, and now, the poor will have theirs. But, the poor had to suffer and did no wrong, in turn they were only treated as victims to sustain the glory of the wicked. And that for the cause of selfishness.
So the magnitude is such that this age is called “the Age of Power”.
And this magnitude is such that they will fall on the ground, unable to get up, having it known to them beyond any shadow of a doubt that all that they are and were is nothing. Every time they wish to join us, they are left finding, they have no way to do so. Because nothing in them is redeemable.
The beautiful will see them as they are, but pay no mind. Jesus will answer for them, even through them.
Then, the beautiful will enjoy each other’s brilliance, just as already today we enjoy the inner light of each other as the finest wine.
