It’s often said that actions speak louder than words. Thoughts generally influence our actions but without action…that’s all they are – thoughts. End of story.
Do these action-less thoughts matter? Do they impact anything beyond your own psyche or the image that we project onto others if you share these thoughts? Just a thought.

God I hope not. Some times my thoughts scare me. I am action.
Perhaps, rather than mere thoughts, ideas matter more.
Ideas are the foundation that influence action. Political, religious, or social movements are born from ideas. History is filled with examples both good and bad of ideas, that when brought to full fruition, had significant influence on the world. The Earth was once believed to be flat and that ships that sailed too far east or west would fall off the edge of the world. Circumnavigation proved that belief to be false. It was also believed that Earth was the center of the solar system and the sun revolved around earth, this too was proven false.
None the less all of these beliefs began as ideas and ideas were born of thoughts. Maybe our thoughts DO matter, at least in context to our own ideas and personal beliefs…our thoughts and ideas and how we interact with others, to influence others by said thoughts and ideas to effect actions, good or bad. Should history be the judge of our thoughts?
My thoughts matter to me. I don’t have mean spirited thoughts, just simple and happy thoughts.
I don’t give much thought to hydration when I work in the hot sun. I get so wrapped up in my gardening that I forget to drink water, or eat. Lucky for me that my partner checks on me and gets me to stop and drink water. I don’t give a thought to it, until I turn around and the yard spins. At that point, I cannot put two thoughts together.
Actions and words are meaningless, it is the heart that matters.
That is why my spiritual name is “Dreamer of Hearts”, not “Dreamer of People”.
Who people really are is who they are in the inside.
Every bad thing people do, every bad thing people say, it all comes from their heart. The heart is the tree. The actions, the words, these are just the wind blowing against the tree, so everyone sees that the wind exists.
So, yeah, as Jesus said, clean the inside of the cup, the outside will be clean too. Clean the outside, not the inside, you do nothing about the poison inside.
People can totally disagree with this, as this is how people think, and what they think they know… but it simply is not true.
And you really can hurt yourself by ignoring it. You won’t be able to even maximize yourself without knowing it and practicing it.
It is, also, very true, however, that ‘the heart is deceitful above all else, who can understand it’, which is really the big problem here and why people do not want to believe this. It goes against their preferences. They want to be able to believe whatever they want, even if it is really untrue. They will change their behaviors, cleaning it, all the time. It really does fool people. But, not forever. And what is inside always eventually bears fruit. If it is bad, that means bad fruit.
There is the illusion that good today is all that matters. We all buy into this at some level. We are frail beings. So, people who are good in heart often are thought of as bad, as wicked, as many bad things. Like me! I am not going to cut my hair or wear a suit and spin stories of bullshit just to get people to think well of me and praise me.
And, so it stands, you want to really get and keep a good heart… good luck. Because you won’t find very much on the subject, anywhere.
You want to find extensive lists of “do this”, “don’t do that”, well, that is everywhere. All the cults, all the politics, all the religions.
thoughts without action are nice, but……………………
it depends on what you want. if you want change, you need to take action.
Somewhat. The key is whether or not they reach reality in any way. Or can ever do so. If a person drools (mentally, mind you — NOT physically) over some hot guy or or chick, but does nothing about it, I think there’s no harm in it (basically “look but don’t touch”)
This is a question I have considered and concluded that thoughts, like talk, is cheap.
A thought is valuable when it is used as the catalyst for action. However, I am not saying a thought itself doesn’t have some value. I think a positive thought can contribute some positive energy that is real; just as negative energy can generate an energy that is the opposite.
Sharing thoughts is one step beyond thinking them, but in my opinion, if you can’t use the thought to DO something, its kinda, but not totally, a waste.
Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks [and the hands act].
Thoughts are important because they are the “foundation” of what we contribute to reality.
Whatever is running through our minds in abundance . . . is at risk of escaping in a moment of stress or duress. Constantly dark thoughts, even if one manages to keep them bottled up and never manifesting, will darken one’s disposition and outlook . . . which then does have effect on the greater whole.
I’m a fan of the notion that spirit controls the mind which controls the body.
o lawdie i have so many thoughts that want their light of day :D
i think its about filtration. some thoughts matter more. thoughts lead to the rest. so they are important, some of them. yes? but i dont think thoughts are impactful, thats when action is necessary.
