Lady Barbara sends snakes to her neighbors and kills their puppies!!
OK, so this isn’t true, but her neighbor thought so. If she posted on social media what she thought to be true, with a pic of the dead puppy, then how does Lady Barbara get a fair shake? Is this just how it is now? Even if Barbara isn’t on social media, she’s still been accused of being something she isn’t.
Puts us all on defense, no?
Anyway – thoughts on the good and bad of social media?

Yep. It was the only misunderstanding in my real life. Otherwise, life is fun, calm, and peaceful. Well, except for the big fact that Immortal Pirate has cancer and goes to surgery on December 12th.
Social media does little. It is only words and words don’t make a big impact on my real life. They are just words from someone who has no idea of what is going on in my life.

I’ve been tearing into demmy-socialist-kids of social-media. I hope that makes you feel a tad something other than the ailments y’old goat.
Only social media I use is linkedin (and reddit, I suppose counts, as does this site)… I work in computer security, so that is one reason I avoid facebook. Another reason is: I am a recovering alcoholic and schizophrenic… so I really could get weird and bad when drinking and using facebook. Now that I am sane and sober I avoid it, still…
I prefer sites where I can just stay anonymous and a distance.
I don’t see much value in giving facebook my info, and I want to avoid getting into controversies.
I probably spend way too much time on social media…but there are far worse addictions one could have. I have a fully stocked bar and might have a single drink of refined spirits once every 6 months. I don’t use or abuse illicit drugs; in the words of Mr. Macky of South Park says, “Don’t do drugs, drugs are bad…M’kay”.
I personally think that most of social media is complete shit. It seems like mostly show off parties and flattering filters. This of course doesn’t apply to everyone. Try as I might, I could never get into it.
I suppose we could be on the defense but I believe that social media can be used in civil and criminal cases nowadays, so at least we have recourse if some asshole has too much time on their hands.
Ugo Mattei is a law professor that worked in Italy to keep public waters from being privatized. He said they had a petition drive before social media was ubiquitous, & got over a million signatures easily, & then after social media exploded they had to work to get something like 50,000 or maybe it was 500,000, before a deadline.
It should be called ‘the social matrix’.
Sounds right. Social media is just a bunch of hullaballoo. The shit that matters still falls through the cracks, shares and likes are tomorrow’s virtual fish wrap.
