Finish the Sentence Mondays: Hot damn people, 2019 was….

In a word or a few words describe the year of 2019.

Hot damn people, 2019 was challenging! I tried to think of a metaphor without being too Forrest Gumpish, but I also come back to candy. You know those variety candy bags you buy for trick or treaters? Sometimes you get into those early or you end up with some leftovers. You’ll reach in and sometimes you get a favorite and sometimes it’s the crap candy that is weeded out to the very end until all that is left is a bag of crap candy? This year was a bit this way for me. Sometimes I got Twix and sometimes I got the dark chocolate Milky Way. Overall, it wasn’t a bad year, I know that even through my most challenging times, people would take my dark chocolate Milky Way over their crap candy any day. In the coming year I will try to do a better job at picking my candies, I could definitely do less with those damn dark chocolate Milky Ways.

  1. Where’s the Pirate & his Moll?!?!? How did their December 12th medical thing go?

    The world’s nuts.
…as the only sane one left my conclusion has been to start drinking. I don’t drink a lot of quantity though. I’m glad I waited ’til middle-age to start.

I hope that mean old space-Pirate’s doing as best as can be expected.
    Here’s a time-passer I found & really enjoyed in 2019 that’s from the 50s…

      1. I’ve had one seltzer, one beer, and some bongers, all night.
I don’t like being drunk as much as just tipsy.

2019 wasn’t as bad as it felt. I didn’t have any friend’s funerals to attend. I lost respect for any propped up figure I ever respected before. That kinda nags at the spirit like cold winter rain.

2019 was a revelation of hopelessness & acceptance.
        Yechhhh

      2. I too enjoy being tipsy…getting drunk isn’t usually the goal. I like to enjoy the buzz, not regret it. :rolf:

Hopelessness and acceptance…man, I hope that 2020 brings some new perspectives. Losing respect for others is a difficult thing to come to terms with. Not sure I’ll be on tomorrow, but if I’m not – have yourself a Happy Little New Year!

P.S. I’m also glad to see you’re back!

  2. 2019 was surprising. I thought my medical team was going to tell me the lump in my breast was cancer, but then it turned out to be a cyst. Being that I am considered to be a “Retrobate” (my doctor’s word), I am too old to worry about it.

So, I breathed easy and thought that all was well.

Then Immortal Pirate went to his doctor and came home with the bad news that he had prostate cancer!!! Now what? He could go through chemo and radiation —- or, have the prostate surgically removed.

I have had cancer three times in my life and my choice was always to have it surgically removed, then go from there. Follow up radiation treatments and a bit of chemo to tidy things up. The result was that I am still alive and in a happy condition. I recommended the same for Immortal Pirate. If you don’t need the organ to live, then have the cancer removed from the body.

So, Immortal Pirate had his prostate removed. Now that the cancer is removed, he can go on with some radiation and —— get on with life. Life is better than dying in 5 years, because death from cancer is not pretty. Living WITHOUT cancer is promising.

He went into surgery on December 12th and has been recovering. He goes to see his Doctor today. Then we will know how his cancer survival is coming along.

So, this year has been full of unexpected surprises. It has been like The Wild Ride of Mr. Toad. Just when we thought we were running into the train, the door opened and there before us was a brick wall. We have crashed through the wall and clear road seems to be ahead. But the Wild Ride is not over, yet.

    1. I have a cute picture of the cats walking over Immortal Pirate’s prone body and checking him out, and I was going to say Immortal Pirate gets a cat scan. However, there is no place to select a picture and post a picture on here.

      1. You’ll be able to share photos again soon. Just working through a few more kinks.

You two have definitely had a year of surprises. I hope that the prognosis after the initial surgery is good. Take care of each other and keep us posted.

  3. … a year of decisions.

I’ve decided to move out of Arizona. Going to somewhere with more land, with the goal of owning/operating a farm, and becoming an entrepreneur by building some businesses.

I don’t know if I’ve gone all philanthropist or not, but I want to live in a small community, and be able to support hard working individuals in the community with a job that provides commensurate pay. I also want to be able to have businesses that my children can take over, so they don’t need to rely on a failed college system, and a worthless degree, with the hopes they can be one of the few to get a decent paying job to support themselves.

I’ve also made the decision for complete debt freedom. At some point we’re going to hit a recession, I don’t know if it’s in the next year, or the next 5, but we seem long overdue. That being the case, I’m trying to shed debt as much as possible and save money. I’d like to have a large portion of cash on hand to be able to invest after a crash, to have a decent return. Apparently Buffet is sitting on 1 billion in cash for just this.

As far as 2020 goes, I look forward to the presidential debates, and Trump being re-elected. I’m not looking forward to these things because I think Trump is some magical individual that is going to make America great, because of the depression and disheartening it does to liberals. The more liberal tears the better, and the more disheartened the better. The left needs a wakeup call that they’re taking the country in the wrong direction. Trump will be re-elected. I’ll bet anyone on this site any amount of money they wish, if they believe otherwise.

I’ve decided that I will most likely never live in a city again. I’ve lived rural on acreage with about 30 other neighbors within a half mile radius. I love it. I love having my kids be able to run around and play outside, or go on a hike right from the house and into the hills. I love not hearing sirens, airplanes, helicopters, music, and voices. I love not having city lights flooding the sky blocking out stars, or headlights from cars light up rooms in my house as they drive past.

I guess that’s enough for now. Hope everyone has a safe night.

    1. I love telling demmy-neosocialists to ‘shut up & build a cooperative already’.

I don’t have any debts aka loan(s) or mortgage(s)! Lookee at Meee!!

American politics is a drunken domestic dispute over whose turn it is to do the dishes while the sink overflows. As of right now, Trump looks pretty secure, but if anyone can royally screw everything up it’s him, but if anyone can royally screw everything up, it’s also the democrats.

    2. Well! You have been busy as well. Have you folks made the move yet or is that the plan for 2020?

On with Trump again are we? You don’t think the impeachment will have any effect on his re-electability? If he were not in the running, who do you plan on voting for?

      1. The move will likely happen in April or May, everyone is excited.

The impeachment won’t have any effect on his re-electability. His approval numbers increased after the charade, and Pelosi holding onto the papers instead of sending it up to the senate only confirms that this whole thing is a game. If they were so apt to get it ram rodded through for the safety of the nation, why the holdup now? Finish the job…

But she knows the senate will acquit, and it will go nowhere. So she’s holding on.

It’s hard to say who I would vote for if he weren’t running, since I don’t know all the candidates. I still like Rand Paul, but for the most part, the republicans are just as corrupt as the democrats. They’re all about padding their pockets, increasing taxes, and making the government bigger.

It’s a sorry state of affairs.

    3. That sounds like a wonderful plan and I love the idea of looking out for the future of your children and giving them something to make a living on. That is very wise of you. I wish you all the best.
