think back to your childhood to one of your favorite toys-
share from the toy’s perspective what happened? what is the story of the toy, why was it left behind?
My Johnny 7, One Man Army. It really was one of my toys that I will never forget.
My owner grew up and abandoned me because he didn’t need a gun any more to feel like he was in charge any more. He developed an attitude of managing his situations without assault weapons.
My Teddy-Bear might be in the closet, might not. He was with me since I was a baby. My dad made me throw him away, but I think I hid him in the closet. I’m afraid to look and not find him.
This little blue motorcycle man. Well, it looked like a motorcycle helmet in a way. Maybe some space trooper? Not sure. Just called him Blue Man. There was a point though that I felt I was getting too old for all of that. Told my two friends they could smash him if they want. Kind of cried afterwards. Kind of regretted it, even now actually.
While not what Others would call a toy, i collected rocks. Found a half of a quartz node. Polished it up, but because of its size, couldn’t really keep it in the house… so i deposited it back outside in the dirt. Can’t find it anymore. Wonder if someone found, took it.
Red Ryder BB-gun. I was 10 years old when I sent in Cheerios box tops and my allowance to buy it. Knowing that Mom would not let me have boy’s toys, I was careful to catch the UPS man delivering it and to hide it in my brother’s closet. I loved target shooting and playing “War” with the neighborhood boys.
My owner prized me above all other toys. In those first years I had to hide in her brother’s closet and her brother used me to shoot birds in the back yard. I was the only toy to go with my owner everywhere she lived, except when she lived in Germany and I was left in the care of her brother. When she came back, I have always had a place in her living room and I am used to chase away stray cats that get in the yard. We don’t shoot stray cats anymore because we live with a man who feeds and cares for strays. I am always ready for target shooting and I have a place in the living room hanging out with swords and a really cool cane. I am always kept in good condition. I have been owned by Barbara for 61 years and I will always be with her. I am the toy who is never left behind.
