Gifts

do you like to give and/or receive gifts?
are you good at gift giving?
what, if anything, have you ever re-gifted?

Receiving gifts is alright to me. I prefer to give them, bit not for special occasions. I prefer to be spontaneous with the gift giving. I don’t find that I am particularly good at gift giving unless I know the person very, very well.
I have re-gifted a book about Mr. Rogers and a painting with a god quote on it.

Not terribly fond of either. Well, it depends I guess. If I talk about a movie and my uncle comes in at some point with it, it is pretty nice. Stuff that I never talked about could be bad. I could not like it and feel bad someone wasted time/money on it. Due to that, I overall don’t care for it. Plus, I’d rather them just focus on what they want. As for giving, I am not good at all. I don’t really know what people want, like, or what they have already. I don’t usually ask people questions like that. If someone asks for something specific, or shows an interest but no way of getting, and I get it for them, that makes me feel good. I prefer giving gifts that way. Total surprises either way — not a fan of surprises.

@yin the surprises probably ties back to your childhood when something unexpected happened and it wasn’t entirely a positive experience for you. I have known people who seem to already have everything and have enough resources so as to buy what they want when they want it and do so. I find those people the toughest to buy for.

A lot of it ties back to our love language too. My daughters love language is quality time so instead of a material present, I will take her and we will both go to a nice dinner or something so she is receiving the monetary value but also spending time with her.

I like giving. My partner and I both give and receive gifts. I think his most impressive gift was to a gay couple that wanted to buy a house and were turned down because they were gay. Immortal Pirate added to what they already had for a down payment with a gift of $10,000.00. It would help them get into a home of their own. I have given large gifts to my two sons, but mostly just money, or paying their car off.

We are always thinking of each other with gifts. Today, I stopped by Home Depot and remembered that Immortal Pirate’s bottle of wood glue had dried up, so, I bought 4 bottles of wood glue. I am using wood glue on my latest craft project. I saw some clamps that I knew he would like. When he was out and about, he went to Hobby Lobby and picked up a couple of bottles of wood glue and a little mermaid figurine for my craft project. When we got home, we saw that between us we now have plenty of wood glue. We exchanged gifts and laughed at having 6 bottles of wood glue. Such daily kindnesses keep us together —- if not by love alone, then surely by wood glue.

Main gift I can ever give, is truths and good things to say, I have worked out. Such things are not comparable to material gifts.

Likewise, I receive from others, and share, as I see it can be received.

Not that giving material gifts can not communicate true peace, joy, hope, and love. They can. Actions are forms of communication, too.

Your posts are good gifts, speaking of. You continue to post, and write thoughtful ones.
