Happy Birthday Jear77!!! I don’t make a big deal of my birthday. I like to acknowledge the milestones, but other than that; I just like a good meal. Preferably a home-cooked Italian meal.
@Jear77 That’s my kind of eating. We were just in Vancouver BC, Canada this past week. We were in Eastern Indian and Chinese heavy neighborhoods. We at some delicious Indo-Chinese. If you never had it, look for it. It’s a spicier version of Chinese. We ate amazing Dosas (Southern Indian), Szechuan and Venezuelan cuisine that was off the charts. I live for art and food.
Happy birthday big guy! Warmest wishes for all the best.
As @halfbreed has said, often it’s just another day for me. But perhaps one that I do a bit more reflection on.
And if it coincides with time around friends they tend to like making a big deal of it! And if they want to, I’ll let them have it!
(Plus, it’s kind of nice to be the excuse for a party!)
Happy birthday, Jeer77!!! …and a pinch to grow an inch.
There was a time in my last marriage when my Mom and family disapproved of my marriage, that they were always finding fault with him. My birthday would come and my husband and I went for one of my favorite dinners —- sunny-side-up eggs, bacon, hash browns, coffee, and toast —- at a local diner. He usually gave me a silly tool from Home Depot for a gift. I love tools.
Then the family would call and wish me a happy birthday. My husband would answer the phone and when hearing the caller wanting to say happy birthday to me, he would pretend surprise — like he did not remember it. Then my Mom would call the next day and ask what my husband did to celebrate my birthday? I would pretend surprise that the day slipped by unnoticed. I’d say to my husband, “Lowell! Yesterday was my birthday!” and he would pretend to be surprised and wish me a happy birthday. Then my Mom could do one of her 20 minute rants on how awful Lowell is to have forgotten. We would set the phone down and let her rant, while we got a good laugh out of it. Those were the good ol’days! We liked upsetting my Mom. My Mom had ranted to each of Lowell’s wives about what a bad husband he was. It was like a family joke.
Nowadays, Immortal Pirate buys me a gift, or makes me a gift and takes me out to dinner at the place we went to on our first date. It is a sushi restaurant and it is very dimly lit and fancy. It is romantic.

@Fletch
Sorry. The truck full of lavish praise I ordered for you was stopped at the border by Homeland Security.
Scanty praise is all I have left in stock!

Happy Birthday Jear77.
Eat Cake.
It’s just another day. I don’t celebrate my birthday at all, and I hope others don’t celebrate my birthday either.
I guess that’s my birthday wish.
