HAS POLITICS RUINED FAMILIES?

I’m sure we’ve all heard the stories and perhaps even experienced them.  One’s political stance goes completely against those of other family members.

“My liberal sister says if I don’t get the vax, I am not allowed in her house for Christmas.”

“My 20 year old nephew wants to identify as a woman, and gets mad when we don’t adhere to his lifestyle.”

“Trump will save/destroy our country.”

What are your experiences with this?  Do you know people whose family has ‘broken up’ due to having differing political opinions?

And why does it seem that now is the time for all of this?

My family are very much strict in their political affiliation. My political affiliation is the opposite. We don’t talk about politics because it causes too much upset. So we all just kind of leave one another to their own opinions.

It does no good trying to discuss anything with my family. My mom argues on Facebook about politics.

We all know we disagree, its just known and not discussed.

Harsh truth: greed with politics has literally been the incentive for killing people for about as long as people have been killing each other.

    Politics ruins everything.

There’s a racist that made the major news media and interestingly he’s a far right wing anti-semite with a Jewish mother. He was just beaten up or something for throwing an anti-Muslim rally and got his algorithmic start being a baseball bat January 6th-er who big-dumb-liar-guy pardoned. Fortunately I get to point to that guy because I don’t personally know any families that split, but I don’t go on the gossipy facespace, and really keep a distance from people in general because I have all kinds of things to take care of around the house.

Why this is happening now, from my perspective, is you can monetize hate through content creation because the great most compassionate, most merciful algorithm don’t give no shits about morals, just giving folks what they want.

The entrepreneurial mindset promoted by being raised in a self-help centric society that tells you to go chase rich because it’s what all the cool kids are doing, is going to end up with talentless failures, who are told to keep trying, who will start desperately throwing all ideas at the wall to see what sticks, and boom. They find their demographic… other talentless failures. The failures might not be monetary. They can be rich as hell. The failure can be a relationship that went sour. Maybe they didn’t make the majors when they thought they should. Maybe they don’t get attention the way they want.

TV brainwashes people. They used to call shows, programs. More leisure time is spent on shows and the adulation of them, than sex and drugs. I’ve got a bunch of TV show T-shirts and plan on buying more! The Maggie Haberman-Jonathan Swan book ‘Regime Change’ shows how sitcom-dad-stupid our fear and hate ridden guy in office truly is. We might be trapped in a show because we watch so many shows?

I guess all I’m going to do about anything is go watch ‘The Pruitts of Southampton’ and if it’s good I’ll somehow find a t-shirt for it.

    Yes.

Through things like no fault divorce, eliminating single family incomes, abortion, and general cultural degradation, politics has indeed ruined families.

Even more frustrating when there’s a strong possibility that it was all intentional.
