How much do you try to fit into one day?

Some questions to consider:
Do you try to let each day be its own thing and whatever you get done, you get done and If you need to do more, there’s always tomorrow? OR do you have specific plans and you feel awful if you can’t get everything fit in – if so, do you ever feel there’s enough time in a day to do everything needed? Or is it a balance doing as much as you can because the things need to be done, and not worrying about the rest?

  1. You cannot accomplish everything in one day, so why shackle yourself to that mental prison cell. Today has enough for today, tomorrow has not yet come. Leave a little for tomorrow, lest you run out of things to do with your time.

@immortal_pirate i doubt that if left to my own devices, (AND get paid to do so) I would never be without things to do. Unfortunately, no one is going to be paying me for taking care of my own personal business.

There are always things left undone and may not even be done tomorrow. Yet, the mess will still be waiting to be done when the time comes that we want to do it.

My two most recent careers — together spanning about 3 decades — required meeting each day on-the-fly and amending my schedule accordingly. One learns skills for dealing with this and there’s a certain amount of pride in being adaptable.

But there is still a part of me that develops expectations and if I’ve let my energy get low I can get pissed off when things don’t happen according to plan — which then boomerangs into my being less effective in the things I do manage to get done.

So in the end, you can only do what you can do in a day. Physically. Emotionally. Logistically. Pragmatically. To try to go beyond that just ends up hurting you.

So my question as a guy and an aging guy at that . . . is why I find myself skating so close to and even over this line so often!??

    TOO MUCH!

which is why i have to let myself off the hook sometimes. or really when i am exhausted i have to give in and relax…
like tomorrow is my day off and then i work 2 before im off 2 on 2 etc… so i already have a list in mind of what i Could/Should do, but i am also thinking i deserve to not do it. rest and relaxation is harder than being busy!

@BelleMadre Friday I worked and afterwards tried to do a tabletop RPG article. But it was too much for me. But I couldn’t even finish the article. Saturday morning I had an event I really wanted to attend, took time off to do so, but with how worn out I was, I simply couldn’t leave the house.

I pretty much never feel like there is enough time in the day. Even when I get to bed beat and exhausted. With that being said, a lot is put off to “tomorrow”. For the most part, I try to do all that I am able to and I prioritize my goals so that I am able to be flexible for what needs to be done right away in comparison to what can wait.
