Is time on your side?

I have come to the realization that for every restart of life, the clock does Not in fact reset itself.

Which gives one a Lot to think about on a working weekend saturday morning.

Do you feel like time is on your side, or are you running to catch up? What does time mean to you? is there time to make coffee before we leave for the day?

Feel free to use this topic to impart some life wisdoms, thoughts or questions you might have. like, why didnt i make that fresh pot of coffee?

Now that I am retired I have time. This morning I took a gardening class and Immortal Pirate couldn’t get me out the door fast enough. He carried my planting bucket out the door 15 minutes before I planned to leave. So, I left early and arrived early ,before the store opened up.

I found myself saying to Immortal Pirate, “Stop rushing me!” Then I arrive for class and they are just getting there to unlock the store and they looked at me like, “We are not ready for you.” They hurried to make me coffee, while giving me the stink-eye for showing up 15 minutes before they could open up. It was like —- here is some coffee. Go sit in the far corner and let us open up the store.

Life is relaxed when one is retired. We get up when we feel like it.

I had a tow truck coming on Friday to take my crashed car to the collision center in another city. He was to come at 8:00 am Friday. Instead, he shows up at our door (without calling first) on Thursday, at 7:00in the morning. He assumed that we would be awake at that ungodly hour of the morning. I was angry and not fully awake for the drive in the stop and go traffic. The tow truck simply dropped my car off in the roadway of the collision center and did not bother to tell them he was dropping off a car. When I got there, I found my car blocking the way and the collision center people upset about it. We got it straightened out. In this hurry-up-and-get-it-done world, everyone is rushing. The collision center was not ready for my car, and had to squeeze it into a small spot not meant for a car to park. But, it is a Smart Car and fits in a small space. I was pissed off at the tow truck driver for rushing the towing of my car, then leaving it in the middle of the roadway. As Immortal Pirate explained to me that time is money to the tow truck driver and he wants to get in as many tows as he can in his day. Still, that is no excuse for rushed and shabby work.

Well, now my car is at the collision center and I had my class in gardening. The rest of the day is for us to enjoy.

@ladybarbara Independent tow truck operators are generally selfish vultures that are all about making cash at the expense of others’ grief. same mold as funeral directors. Never have had a good experience with one. I joined the CAA (Cdn version of your American Automobile Association) and their guys go over and above the call of duty every time because complaints can lead them lose their job or their contract. It’s worth the membership fee to get the service you deserve.

I had to move a car recently on a flatbed and I asked the guy what his normal charge would have been to move it the distance I required. $350. I’ve probably paid that in membership fees over the years but it was nice to know I didn’t need to reach into my pocket for that in the moment. The other thing is, if you use the discounts you are entitled to, you can recoup your membership fees pretty quick every year. Its a good deal all ’round.

@spitfire3dc Thank you for that information. I will look into it, even though my car is so light that 3 men can carry it. There are times when the car may have to be towed. It would be good to know I can get a tow truck driver that would care about where he drops off my car.

TIME is on no one’s side. TIME is on everyone’s side.

Time moves along with or without you. It’s just a unit of measure.

HOW you spend your time is your choice.

It is complicated for me. I don’t wish to get too dark with this, so I will try to keep it simple. There are some things through life where I feel that time is going by quick. There are points where I feel it isn’t fast enough. Either way, yea, it is my enemy.

‘i feel like time has much to offer’

STOP thinking this way. Time does not offer you anything. It’s there whether you like it or not. Don’t think of time as a physical ‘thing’. It’s a marker that measures, that’s all.

Go out and live, experience, observe, soak in, and be aware of everything you can. Not whether you have “time” or not.

        @Fletch THIS

“Go out and live, experience, observe, soak in, and be aware of everything you can. Not whether you have “time” or not.”

i think this is what i need, this kick in the butt…

(im struggling between those days when i get home from work and evening tasks dog tired, stretch out soaked in muscle rub and watch stupid tv shows for the next 6 hours, and the days like today where we are planning swimming and sunshine adventures. i guess its all in balance but i feel like i am wasting the future before it even starts, and something in me wants more. but i know its on me. in me. whatever. up to me. when i was ‘younger’ i spent most of my waking hours lost in books. maybe this is the most reality i have ever faced, and i feel the weight of not wanting to waste what is left.)

thank you for being constructively honest and bold here.

I don’t always do what I say, but if we all are more positive about what we are doing (i.e stop complaining), the sun shines a little brighter, food tastes better, the air smells crisper, people have friendlier faces, tasks get done easier, and those minor inconveniences that we thought of as a pain the ass, well, they are all part of this amazing and wild adventure we all LIFE.

don’t look back and say ‘I should have (fill in the blank).

@Fletch YES! these are good words.
today i got us off the bus about a 25 minute walk too soon :D way to go MOM lol. i was hot tired and annoyed and trust that the 10 year old with me was too. so i sucked it up and just walked and chatted and led by example that we can let our moments be ruined by crap mood or we can just go with it. this is a small probably lame ass example but still, case in point. i would Like to feel most positive no matter, but this doesnt always happen. its all moments right?

oh we all have our shitty days, you just have to realize it, and instead of acting out and bitching/complaining, recognize your opportunity to make things better.

        remember its a process

Time seems different for me than what I perceive it seems to be for others.

I seem to have this ability to manage it to a certain extent, albeit I am not trying to say I am the master by any means.

I wake up pretty early every day and it gives me a space to do nothing, then, if I choose to, I can get ahead on some things. It pays off later.

The other thing is I have lived most of my career based on appointments and because of that, I seem to be able to apply that organization to everything. Maybe because I made a point of getting to appointments early (who needs the stress of being late added on to the tasks at hand?) I get things done.

The most important thing, in my opinion, in managing time is to have concrete objectives applied to how you seize your day. I will make lists of things to get done and tick them off and that somehow sorts itself into mental time chunks required to accomplish within a set time.

I used to have a boss ho used to call me at about 7:00am my time on Monday mornings when it was 9:00am his time and it used to really mess up my day having to be “on” for his grilling. So I started calling him at 7:00 am his time prepared with the answers to the anticipated questions. This meant I needed to be up at 5 and ready to go. I did this for a couple weeks, then stopped. He got my point and stopped calling.

I’m not really sure how this works, but I can sit behind the wheel of a car and think, if I leave right now, I will be there at 2:47 and it always shocks me when I pull in at 2:47, forty minutes or an hour later, traffic issues and all?? I think maybe just by putting the time into my mind, that somehow the Universe works to address the requirement as odd as that may sound.

Last comment, When I ask someone how they are and they say “busy”. My mind says bullshit, unless they are single mothers. Everyone else is not too busy, unless they choose to be, by not making any effort to manage their time. Time management is a skill that can be learned, but most prefer to justify their existence by claiming to be so important by being busy. I respect people who get shit done, not by chickens running around with their heads cut off, because that’s what I see

@spitfire3dc im with you here. sometimes i take my quiet time in the evenings, when everything is done and i can let myself relax. thats when i find peace. in the night time air of the balcony. or just laying prone on my yoga mat :D if i were to get to bed earlier, sleep better, id like to take that time in the morning again.t hat is when i used to write. ive tried earlier to bed, but thats when my insomnia kicks me in the brain. so i get greedy about every second of sleep in the morning. but i imagine that starting the day in silence and peace before it All begins would feel great.

i also feel like much of my busy is my choice, or rather up to me. for instance, i have 3 days off and already planning all kinds of activities, when really we should just relax together and not worry about filling every day with scheduled plans! (altho to be honest todays plans include going for a swim, taking scooter booter down our favourite trail and of course the dishes that have been piling up all weekend while i worked <- not so bad!)
