Just throwing this out there. I found some recent posts here where people ended up arguing about politics and politicians. I get that what happened last weekend was scary and we’re all concerned. But let’s forget about the politics and focus on the racism. Never mind that the racists call themselves of a political orientation – politics is not the real issue, it’s just a subject that once we get into it, we fall either on one side or the other and are suddenly enemies. I don’t want SP to be about that.
That being said, let’s analyze what WE can do about racism.
There are no more posts.

I cannot identify with racism, but I just got out of the freeway bumper-to-bumper traffic and I can relate to the emotions behind thinking that everyone making mistakes, or driving slow is an asshole, or some kind of idiot. Immortal Pirate drove me to the collision center to pick up my car. Now I have not seen his birth certificate, but Impatience must be his middle name. I even like that about him. I get to hear language that he doesn’t use at home.
As for me, traffic tests my patience, and it has to be something like when a person is racist and not tolerant of the “others”. Cars cut in front of me, as if they think I am driving a lawnmower on the freeway. Men in big macho trucks cannot stand for a small stature woman in a tiny Smart Car passing them. So, they race to get around me, then cut in front of me and slow down. It takes patience to not blow my cool and get mad.
Every time I think a horrible thought about another driver, I stop and replace it with a patient thought. ——- What if the driver that just cut me off was my dear old 99 year old Mom??? Would I get angry at her? No, I would have patience and tolerance for her. So, that is how I treat other drivers.
I think it is the same with the people who cannot tolerate another race. Try to replace that horrid thought with the kind of thought you would have if your son or daughter married someone from that race —– and you MUST develop a love for that new member of your family.
I have said things that a friend took as racist, but it is all in the relationship you have with that other person. I had a friend, named Scotty, from down on the Louisiana Bayou, whose skin was the color of the finest dark chocolates and his loving nature reflected his Southern charms. We had been friends and neighbors for 22 years. Then, there was about I year that I did not see him. When we saw each other again, he was with another friend of mine, (John) but we hugged a fond hug and I said, “Scotty!!! I haven’t seen you in a coon’s age!” The friend (John) got upset, thinking that was a racist thing to say. It is simply a saying used in Louisiana. Coons (raccoons) live to be a ripe old age. They have long lives. Scotty and I have used Louisiana slangs for all the years we have known one another. I think, some people are just too sensitive. John was being too sensitive. He was protecting Scotty, but two old friends can laugh at that.
I cannot relate to actual racism, but it is the same with every type of intolerance.
@ladybarbara if you can’t identify with racism, how can you comment on it?
No.
