Likes & dislikes…

Name something you used to dislike/hate but now like.
Name something you used to like but now dislike/hate.

Why the change?

I know most people on this site know I am no longer a christian, but that’s not the only thing I’m talking about here

I used to dislike raw tomatoes, but as time goes on I’ve started liking them more and more (tho I still won’t typically eat them by themselves, but a good picco de gallo is the bomb or a slice on a sandwich is satisfying)

I also have become increasingly frustrated with some forms of technology. Sure it makes our lives easier, but there are some things that no matter what simply won’t work for me. Case in point: I have nothing but a few tabs in Mozilla open and word, and I have to log out in order to get the mouse unfrozen.

  1. I used to like chocolate and I liked oranges and lemonade. Then, in 1983 I had surgery and my heart stopped on the operating table. It took a time for them to get my heart started again. For my first hospital meal the next morning, orange juice was on my tray. It tasted horrendous! Since then, I cannot stand citrus and most fruits put me off. Another thing that changed was the taste of chocolate went away. Chocolate now has no taste. Even the good chocolate from Switzerland has no taste to it. It has been 34 years and I cannot even remember what chocolate tastes like.

I used to like my iphone, but the black face would be confusing if I had another stroke. During a stroke it is hard to figure things out. Numbers and letters appear to be Martian symbols and are unrecognizable. The blank black face of my iphone might be too confusing as to how to get it to turn on, then how to make a call on it. I am carrying an old flip phone with buttons on it. Buttons might give me half of a chance to call someone. At least, now I am living with Immortal Pirate and he might recognize a stroke when he sees one. I will be totally confused and unable to focus, or carry on a conversation —- which wouldn’t look much different to him than my normal self.

Oh well. We will cross that bridge when we come to it.

  2. Your browser problem is probably due to old technology. Mozilla and word can both require a lot of memory quite easily, and this does increase over time with new versions. Yet, your old computer may be designed to the far less resource intensive versions.

I work in technology, so I have to keep up with it. In general, I tend to like newer things, over old. Cinema, for instance, television, I believe has gotten much better. Likewise ease of comfort technology like how we can finally pay to watch tv without commercials. We no longer need video stores, because now we can get anything we want, whenever we want.

This is all, including the internet altogether, like much technology, much better then the old.

In general, I like newer music, but some good directions I believe have been lost, and some bad directions have been started up.

In terms of much more important things, some preferences have changed over the years.

    Why?

Because, about seven years ago I was told that ‘there is no truth because we all believe in what we want to believe, based on our preferences’. (And that statement was delivered by an angel in disguise as a human, if you want to know. Not that you can believe it, but it adds some humor here for me.)

Anyway, so, I learned that in order to know truth, I had to be skeptical and aware of my own preferences, and adapt to truth accordingly. Regardless of what that meant.

  3. When I was a kid, I wasn’t a fan of music. My aunt listened to opera. My uncle listened to country. Cartoons played classical. That changed once I heard rock music. That ended up opening the floodgates. I like classical now and opera is ok at times. Still not a country person though. Rock, hard rock, hip hop/rap, classical, electronic are my main genres.

I guess some things that I now dislike are some movies that I loved as a kid. George Clooney Batman movies and Casper. I just can’t…
