When was the last time you looked into eyes? What did you see?
Look into their eyes. This holiday season, look into the eyes of the ones you serve and the ones who serve you. If you are spending Thanksgiving at a homeless shelter, look into the eyes of the homeless or the people serving. Look into the eyes of the impoverished, the hurt, the confused, the difficult people, the prisoners, the ones society has shunned or think of as “bad”. Always look into eyes.

That is lovely Miss Scarlett. I always look into people’s eyes, including the man or woman on the street asking for money.
This made me think of Peter Gabriel’s, In Your Eyes
love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are
all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes
love, I don’t like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive
and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
Happy (American) Thanksgiving!
@Gina I like these lyrics. I especially like the one about instincts returning and staying awake and alive. we need all. we need our instincts and our place of awareness, and our thinking place to make it all go.
I always look into the eyes of my lover.
Last night, I looked into the eyes of several people in my community. It was Feast night and we gather for prayer and socializing.
I always look into the eyes of anyone asking for money on the street.
The eyes tell you so much about the person.
@ladybarbara that Is nice. there is a thing called soul gazing with your lover wherein you look into each others eyes and try to feel them through the eyes
@ladybarbara can you talk on the phone
@Scarlett Right now I am fixing Thanksgiving dinner and don’t have an extra hand to hold a phone, or think of anything else, but the 7 dishes and pies that I am trying to get to the table — all hot— and all at once. But, Immortal Pirate has plenty of time while he is working out on facebook.
@ladybarbara thanks. I was having a crisis, but I think it is ok now.
@Scarlett I’m sorry. It was a very hectic time for me being the only one cooking a Thanksgiving dinner and — at that moment, I wished I had 8 hands instead of just two. Thanksgiving Day is a hard day to get even a moment to myself to take a sip of coffee and catch my breath. I was at frustration’s door.
I hope there was someone to help you get through it. Sometimes when there is chaos all around you, or you are put in a situation, a quiet moment and a stare says a zillion words that are unspoken.
Sometimes I am staring at someone and leaving a big silent space. (Inward, I am searching for words and imagining my target as a big pinata and me having a big stick —– but only in my mind) . During the silence and stare, the other person fills the void with words.
Looking into the eyes is such a personal experience when those eyes are looking right back.
Whenever we open a bottle of wine and we raise our glass for that first clink, we have made it a condition to look deeply and directly at each other’s eyes. It fascinates me that after a very long time of knowing each other that the moment always feels special. There is a definite physical sensation that is hard to describe. It feels sort of like I come out of myself for the time the gaze is locked.
I find direct eye contact requires intention. It is one if the very best things associated with being human, but it also might be one of the most dangerous because sometimes our interpretations of what eyes are saying is just based on what we might want them to be saying. I find it very hard to stay objective, because it is just such a raw moment of exchange where anything and everything is available for consideration. I also find it takes a certain amount of trust in another to let them look into my windows.
@spitfire3dc I think that is a nice tradition! I look into eyes a lot. soft brown eyes and vibrant blues. I don’t find many green eyes, but I have one friend who holds the most beautiful green eyes. I try to think about what is behind the eyes. it is the one thing that doesn’t change much in appearance with age.
@Scarlett there is this odd dichotomy associated with eyes. They can be used to penetrate as an assault weapon, or they can be used as a gate for defense when used as shield of non allowance.
I think some people are purposeful in trying to get behind defenses, because once the gate is left wide open, some take advantage.
its funny how our eyeballs can, without any physical change express so may varied considerations…anger, empathy, interest, joy, sorrow, love…. Eyes are probably a more accurate tool to communicate than our mouths.
Every time I talk about someones eyes I get in to trouble…
