It’s time to talk about love again-
when was the last time you said I love you?
when was the last time I love you was said to you?
when was the last time you broke someone’s heart or had yours broken?

One minute ago is when I told Immortal Pirate that I love him and he told me he loves me, too.

I think the last heart I broke was when I told my roommate/renter (Vivi) that I wanted to sell my house and move to the house I bought with Immortal Pirate. She had been living in my house and occupying a bedroom for eleven years. She did not pay very much in rent —- only $200.00 a month, if she had it. Most often, she did not have the money for rent because she spent it on shoes, clothing, and food for herself and her boyfriend. She often cried about not having rent money because her car was not registered, got impounded, and needed repairs. So, instead of her paying me rent, I paid to get her car out of impound, registered and repaired —- costing me thousands. She depended on me. There were times that she would be in her room crying because she was hungry and ran out of money. I knew that cry and I would buy an extra large pizza for us to eat, and enough for her boyfriend to have some, too. I made life too easy for her.

Now, I wanted to sell my house and move to Phoenix. Vivi did not know what she was going to do. Rent in other houses was $450.00 to $700.00 a month. She knew that other people would not be so forgiving if she did not have the money for rent. She cried that she would put her belongings in storage and live in her car. She was destined to get a tent and live with the other homeless people down by the riverbed. She began to cuss me out every night. She was livid with seething anger.

It is not like she did not have a job. She worked at Disneyland and earned $17.00 an hour. They increased her work hours and she worked 45 to 50 hours a week.

In the last days before I moved, she was cussing me out every time she saw me. This is when I knew that she had hated me all these years that she lived in my house. Eleven years of sharing clothes and fixing each other’s hair was all forced friendliness to cover envy and hate. She announced that she would take me to court and be able to stay in the house rent free for 6 months. I said, “Good luck with that.”

My house sold in one day to a Middle Eastern Muslim who had the full amount of the selling price IN CASH!!! I signed the sales papers and escrow closed the next day. I was rushed to pack and move out as fast as I could. Vivi was told to pack and move as fast as she could. She would lock me out of my house whenever I went outside without my keys. She said it was her house, now. The buyer said that she had better get out because he was going to change the locks as soon as I got out.

On my moving day, I left the keys and the new owner changed the locks. Vivi came home to a locked door. Her bedroom had not been packed. She did not plan to move out. The new owner let her into her room to get personal belongings, but not long enough to move her furniture out. The new owner moved in and took all of Vivi’s belongings and furniture to the city dump.

Vivi was heartbroken. I don’t know what she did after that. When someone tells me that they hate me, I shut off all friendship. I walk away and I don’t look back.

What do I do for my loved ones? Everything I can.

@ladybarbara Ugh. Sounds like Vivi was a taker.

@Scarlett2 I would bet that she bought a tent and is in one of those tents by the riverbed. She was homeless when I first met her. She was living in an aluminum tool shed in someone’s back yard. When I offered her a bedroom in my house, I said, “A woman needs a real bedroom to sleep in.”

I know that Disneyland has a city behind the attractions and in tunnels under Disneyland. There are places to eat a good meal and even take a nap. There are lounges and all the facilities she would need to clean up and hang around after work.

She is a taker and a user, but she is a survivor, as well. Anyway, I gave her all of my pots and pans and my dishes. I gave her TVs and furniture. If she gets her life together, she will have what she needs to start out in life. She is 64 years old and retirement is just a year or two away.

The first two was when I visited my mom a few weeks ago. The third one was about 10 years ago. I’m not even sure about the last one.

@yin interesting! It sounds like you have a warm relationship with your mother. I have an okay relationship with my mother now. She was a teen mom and my childhood blew, but I have let that go now. I am really proud of the relationship I have with my own children. I feel like we have a very appropriate amount of distance and closeness. We are not codependent on each other, and that is good. We have deep conversations, and they know they can come to me for help. What is your mom like? Is she like you? I feel like my mom is not much like me.

@Scarlett2 We both have similar depression issues. Both apparently have bit of a temper at times. I’m usually surprised by how much she knows and understands technology. She has a lot of animals. She, one of my aunts, and my grandmother all live together. My mom is hilarious at times when she is tired. Like, some of the jokes (not really jokes every time but some comments that weren’t expected) she would say, some even dirty or with cursing, and my grandma would just make a face and that “disapproved” sound. She likes horror/thriller movies, which usually aren’t scary to her. She likes to laugh at some of them. She likes some comedy shows like Monk, Psych, Everybody Loves Raymond. I’m probably not as close as I should or could be with her, but I can’t seem to get myself to be close to anybody anymore. Not sure what it is. It has nothing to do with her. I just feel like my overall mood of life and this world is not great and it put a damper on everything else, like relationships. I try to stick around though because it isn’t her fault that I have issues. While she has her own issues (like getting mad one time when I told her “happy birthday” or when I accidentally messed something up and she said “are you stupid?”), I do understand that I am lucky to have her despite that.

@yin she sounds like an interesting person. Ya, that is just wrong to say “are you stupid?”, tho. That is verbally abusive and I hope you set a boundary with her and let her know it is not okay for her to talk to you like that. Boundaries work. I think it is okay to be as close or as distant as we want to be to family. Sometimes we have to stitch a family together outta friends if we come from poor stock or just people who don’t know how to have a healthy relationship. Not saying this is your family, but In some ways it is mine.

Do you think you may be clinically depressed? If you don’t mind me asking, Do you take anything for depression?

@Scarlett2 I’m the kind of person that is fine with calling friends “family.” I just feel that since my family hasn’t turned their back on me with some of my issues and I can stick around with some of theirs. I mean, I don’t think I would just let them walk over me without saying something or leaving, but I don’t feel I have ever reached that point yet.

It’s hard to say what issues I really have. I went to this place, I told them my issues, they gave me medication to see if they would help, the medication either didn’t do anything or messed me up, they had nothing left, and so I left. I don’t know what my issues are since they never really told me anything. I am open to trying stuff, but it wasn’t a good time trying things that’d mess me up when I am going to school. That first one they put me on made me miss a day of school. I was out of it. I just worry about how to get to the doctor or the cost of the medication. The last doctor I talked to though suggested to get something for anxiety, since that is another huge issue I have. I am in crowds, like I was at school or at the mall, and my energy is gone. It drains me so fast and I feel like I could pass out. I get a bit worried about talking about my depression issues though. I get scared some doctors may take what I say about my feelings a little too seriously or something and put me somewhere, lol. I’m not suicidal, but I can see how someone could think I am if I bluntly told them how I felt.

  3. 8 hours ago, when Lady Barbara said “I love you”, I replied, “I love you too”.

I’m quite certain that in the last 258,766 years that I have existed on this planet, I’ve broken more than a few hearts and had mine broken as well…
