Major study finds evidence consciousness continues farther beyond physical death than previously thought.

An interesting breakthrough. It raises the prospect that you may be fully aware of the fact you are dead.

Thoughts?

The interesting part is it doesn’t state what happens after the brain cells completely die… 10s of minutes to hours is not eternity by any stretch of the imagination!

That was not the intent or scope of the study. Not everything in all of Existence can be handed to us on a silver scientific platter!

What it does indicate, is that it is likely we will have an awareness of the fact we are dead. Perhaps for 10’s of minutes to hours. So what will that time look like? Heavenly, or hellish? Joyful; or terrifying?

And what might be beyond that, who knows? But it ties in very interestingly to the supposition in most belief-systems of a transition, and in some of it being tied to the “transition energy” one can bring to bear. Where are one’s final physical resources “”focused”” in those 10’s of minutes to hours?

And might that open something analogous to an inter-dimensional gateway? Current Human knowledge/science cannot spoon-feed us an easy answer to this. One needs a “different tool” (a metaphysical one?) they are already moderately practiced in the use of in a familiar (physical) environment.
(Huge tie-in there to “exercises of faith” in the transcendent, while here in the flesh. Science and knowledge will likely be of less than zero importance should one find themselves in such a span of time)

@griz point. Bit i’ll cross that bridge if i get to it. With the full knowledge of such an experience is experiencing the same thing that a person on a specific drug experiences.

But what then if the keys to crossing that bridge remain back in a realm you cannot re-enter? Or if you know what “recipe” or tool is necessary, but don’t have the experience or time to perfect it before “minutes or hours” run out?

@griz it’s a well known drug, iirc. I’m at work, so can’t look it up now. Scientists can administer it to perfectly healthy people, they come out fine. But (underline that word) i’m not going to subject myself to such a thing needlessly.

I would not be surprise that there are drugs that can mimic “spiritual experience”.

But the kind of afterlife experience this study alludes to? I’m not even sure how they would test that . . . as their study group would just keep dying without completing the final survey!

@griz for all intense and practical purposes, it’s the same. Even people who were atheists experienced something knowing they were under the influence of a pharmaceutical drug. Keep in mind that This isn’t some street drug that people have taken recreationally, a doctor or scientist administered it…

Actually I don’t think it would be the same at all.

There would be a huge safety cushion with the drug study scenario and an assurance that whatever happened, it would be temporary; and the return to the known status quo would be pending.

@griz if the *experience* is identical, how would it not be functionally the same? It’s like saying drug x and y do the dmsame thing, yet patients experience z difference.

Sometimes you are as thick as a post.

And especially for someone who fancies themself a writer relating to things imagined.

Of course the sober reality that you are dead but somehow still consciously aware and unable to do anything about it would be different than a controlled drug trip for research that you know you will be coming out of.

But try telling yourself it’s just a drug trip you’ll come out of and see how your mind deals with yet another deception at the moment of ultimate truth.
Especially with all the religion horror-stories you have not yet reconciled roaming around in you consciousness.

@griz your brain can’t distinguish the difference. Oh, at a conscious level you might *know,* but do you *really* believe it when experiencing these things? Is it possible to separate what you think you know and what you experience in such a drugged up state? My point is if your brain thinks it is dying, there’s nothing you can do to override what you’re experiencing, as it truly is in your head!

The biochemical brain may not, but the consciously aware mind performs a lot of feats that are a lot more than just “machine”.

My somewhat unique experience-set leaves me less able to afford the luxury of conveniently underselling the human organism or the human being.

Denial never parses as a good survival strategy.

Do you have any evidence or precedent to support your last statement?

@griz you actually hit the nail on the head. Biochemistry will always outdo, override consciousness. Case in point: phantom limb syndome. Does the fact that the person knows 100% that they no longer have a limb stop it from hurting? No!

There is a lot more to Human Being than just a sensation and urge. all that proves is that we are living animals.

What could happen to make us so easily forget that we are more than just that?

There may be some small concession for those who are in the grips of a dire survival situation.

But less than none for those who hundred from luxury that perhaps 85% of the world will never know.

It would be good to stop reaching so far for excuses to be less than Human.

Set out to do what comes easiest: weather driven of laze feargreed or ego management.

        Then do something different!

The main reason to flee from freedom, is fear of responsibility for oneself

One is basically craving a devolutionary slide back into instinctual animal-hood.

Even in that you were confessing the main motivation was to service yourself.

This is common practice for the child physical or spiritual, and is excusable for a season.
But if it persists the child never matures into higher levels of functionability.

Both kinds of children need to master the attitude that they are the primary concern and the center of the universe; or they will remain stuck, growing in resentment and looking for ways to self-deceive that the fault lies anywhere other than in themself.

I know this from personal experience.

Start by examining why the Pharisees did what they did.

And I know this is harsh, but examine why you stopped doing it?

Was it because the expected “wage” was either late in coming by your reckoning, or not to your liking?

While worldly riches and ease are certainly nice, the greatest asset that came from my salvation was a major attitude adjustment away from the one that is now entrapping you.

If the wealth and ease had come first without the toxic attitude being dealt with, I would have just dug myself a deeper hell to imprison myself in.

And even if all of these worldly things were taken from me tomorrow, I would still count myself as in profit with an attitude that actively protects me from resentment arrogance and self-deceit.
Plus the adjusted attitude seems to somehow enabled me to generate worldly profit far quicker and easier than it was previously for me.

Nothing can take this from me save I permit it. I am eternally saved from that dark attitude that was actively seeking to destroy me.

Please remember to pick up your copy of the guide book, WELCOME TO THE AFTER LIFE A GUIDE BOOK FOR THE CORPOREALLY CHALLENGED, it will help you transition more easily into how things work here in the after-life.

You will be required to fill out written forms, in triplicate, that will determine your place in the after-life. Everyone has a job in the after life without exception, (that includes YOU), so enjoy your new life here in the after-life…

There is good scriptural evidence that “the afterlife” begins at the moment of salvation. Which is perhaps why the fear of the corporeal life ending diminishes unto un-importance over time.

@griz do other broken down things have an afterlife that we are concerned about? I’m thinking about a computer, your clothes, a junk car, (something a bit more animated…) an animal, etc. (well not in western society… in japan there are the formerly inanimate yokai). If we,aren’t concerned about such other broken things not having an afterlife, why do we consider ourselves to have one? The human brain is basically a biological processes computer.

The study made no pretense of being about an afterlife.

It was simply studying previously unknown biochemical processes, indicating conscious awareness, happening in the brain long after physical death has been pronounced by modern standards.

No, I am talking about the literal afterlife. There are a lot of dead people walking around, without quite knowing who they are yet. They are not really alive again, alive in the way they will be alive. Their inner spiritual body is slowly waking up.

I have a band aid on my finger, from a cut the other night. I bleed. I bled out, or practically did, last Spring. Shat and vomited blood severely from an ulcer. No complaints, but this is not the spiritual body yet.

I have seen the spiritual body, it does not bleed, it is not flesh made from mud. It is made of light.
