Or better yet, are “eyes open” to the process of History?
The cry of “power to the people” is right now rather hypocritical: because the left is increasingly asserting a policy more in line with “power to the group of people who can cry the loudest, and misbehave in public the best”.
The downfall of Marxism (well, there were many!) was that “the people” just meant the people that toed the party line, and didn’t say or do (or be feared capable of saying or doing) anything that played into a paranoia of preserving “the group” even at the murderous sacrifice of the loyal individual.
Liberalism DESPERATELY needs to learn it can be progressive and adaptive and open to change without waltzing into the same ideology (and off-shoots) that murdered perhaps 100 million in the 20th Century.
(For the record, that’s 5X the death count racked up by fascism)
A better message than “resist”, is “eyes open”. The world of tribal Warfare present in America is what is ripping it apart. The current Administration is not an anomaly. The left and particularly the far-left have not had eyes open to the processes at work in their own tribe that gave this current Administration the traction it needed for a push back.
And if you just push back against the push back they’re going to push back against your push back. (Whew!). and the feedback loop just gets louder and more destructive.
This happened because neither tribe has had its eyes open to its own process and its own failings: its own vainglorious assertions of superiority of vision that leads to steamrolling legislation through rather than allowing proper discourse; and reversing decisions mainly because they were from the other side rather than assessing them for merit and amending.
This message comes down hard on the left, because you are the ones possessed as a group of more trait openness, artistic vision, acceptance of change.
The current political rhetoric is little more than the destructive feedback loop right now.
And those who SHOULD be able to see this, are blinded to it by a very dark ideology that you’ve allowed into your midst. The group victimhood identity politics of postmodern neo-Marxism that is actively seeking to undo the sanctity of the individual and replace it with the power of the group that can whine the loudest
about how hard done-by they are.
The right’s strength and also its downfall is its resistance to change and love of stability.
The left’s is the zeal to push for change without conscientious assessment.
One side needs to change the current cycle, before the feedback loop becomes so devastating the nation dissolves.
And my money is on the part of the whole that is more artistic, creative, adaptive, open to change.
But tempered with the reality that without reasonable constraints from the other side of the whole, you do tend to become overly flaky introducing a kind of chaos that is just as toxic to the society as too much order.

Actually, elevated outrage is catastrophically toxic. It will destroy any biological vessel that tries to contain it for any length of time. Anything empowered by rage will inevitably bring with it all of the blindness and follies of unbridled angry outburst.
Emotions over intellect just turns us into dumb animals again. Both have a place, but it is a concert.
Not a screeching soloist who unplugs or sabotages everyone else’s microphone with their “elevated outrage”!
The left needs to learn that it can exercise intelligence and rational discourse to perhaps even greater effect than just screeching in rage.
There are valid issues to be addressed. But the current tactical approach is flawed to its core.
President Donald Trump is winning every meeting and battle. He is fulfilling all his promises. He is standing strong, undefeated and invincible. Unlike that mocking balloon that soared over London, Trump never loses air!
