@Gina Telling????? I don’t care what all that fighting was about. I have other things to do with my time. It looks like the ANTIFA terrorist group wants to take down another monument. As if, taking it down will erase history. I don’t care what the Left does, throwing their temper tantrums, hitting people with signs and causing injury to the people who want the monument to stay. It doesn’t matter to me if ANTIFA burns down the whole city and kills every policeman they see. —— TRUMP WILL STILL BE OUR PRESIDENT ——- and that is all I care about. My day was spent cleaning up a local park with the Baha’is of this area. I did not watch the shit-storm of terrorists on TV because, after I came home, I was tired and sleepy. I caught up on lost sleep. If the driver of the car was Muslim, I would consider the hate and go on with my life.

…and the mainstream media is ignoring the fact that Antifa is a violent domestic terrorist organization and that the KKK was created by the democratic party…
My only caution is that we need to remember the Human penchant to “divide and factionalize” so one can pretend “one side” is all truth and light and victimhood . . . and the other is totally evil.
As soon as we try to peg all of the darkness and foibles endemic to us all upon one group or even one person (like Hitler), we are “distracting” from the reality of Humanity: summed up in the realization that even those freshly-released from oppression are very ready to visit similar oppression upon others.
And those who rail at the illegal-doings of others can very easily go out and perpetrate their own illegal-doings. (justified as “a lesser evil”, but still “an evil”).
@griz We can only turn our cheek so many times. We have a leader whose sole purpose is to divide us. He has stoked the fire, and both sides of the political spectrum are calling for him to denounce the white supremacists and he won’t do it, because they are his base.

Just be aware that the “We’re not going to take it” wave is what swept him to power. The same thing that caused the problem is not likely to cure it.
“Protest thinking” is entirely of the feelings, and can only go so far in insisting others need to change so I won’t feel outraged.

I thought the country was built on people doing more than just standing up and insisting others should do something about it!
There was a time when people would demonstrate. The focus was on inviting people to change or consider a different point of view.
Modern protests just try to force this upon others. They are what happens when control games upon others, meet emotional masturbation. And spraying one’s emotional goo of superiority on everyone else is not a good way to make friends and invite people to higher ideals.
The core focus of modern protests is to divide based on emotions; not to unite based on higher human ideals.
Most modern protests tend to be solely about emotions: insisting that you are right, more noble. more evolved.
But what is that calling the other group? And human nature tends to respond to such attacks by building deeper trenches and stronger fortifications.
Most modern protests are Their Own Worst Enemy. They are calling for a fight rather than for peace and Reconciliation.
@griz Let me rephrase, as I said in another response. We wouldn’t have any of our civil rights if people didn’t take to the streets to march and protest. Even today, Black Lives Movement has helped create awareness, and helped create conversations about the disproportionate way black people are treated in this country. White people won’t step in and help if they don’t know a problem exists. When people are made aware, they have joined the movements and helped propel change.

I can agree that people exercising their rights and making their wishes known is the foundation of Democratic Society.
But there are far more enlightened and effective ways than just showcasing one’s emotions as a bid to force others to change.
100 people writing a physical registered letter to their representative will have far greater impact than 1000 people protesting in the streets.
But it may prove lacking in the emotional zing that the protesters are mainly after.
BLM has created a dialogue. But it’s also showcased how lacking in conscious thought these emotional protests can be.
As in, most of their “martyrs” would still be alive today if only they had desisted in what they were doing, put up their hands, and said ” don’t shoot”. What their emotions think is clever, is really just a huge “Oy Vey!”.
While I don’t personally want to believe it, it feeds into the notion that black people are too simple and “unenlightened to realize what they are actually saying and doing.
There are far more intellectual and effective methods of addressing issues and engaging society unto positive change.
Trying to pretend that this is all upon the police is simple and unenlightened.
@griz Last night’s candlelight march in Charlottesville gave me living proof how powerful a march can be. I had not been able to sleep well since the events that occurred last weekend, and the horrendous responses from our commander in chief. But, before I went to bed last night I saw the images of the peaceful march that happened after Heather’s funeral. That march put a smile on my face, and hope in my heart. I slept well for the first time in days. I read the comments section, and many people felt the same way. Our president made this country feel very uneasy and pissed off, but the PEOPLE are restoring our faith. They sang songs like, This Land is Your Land, and This Little Light of Mine. Good on you Charlottesville!!! You looked beautiful last night.

A peaceful demonstration can accomplish a lot of good things.
I see this as a return to the kind of demonstrations of old where the drive was to educate people on what they can do in response to social events they disagreed with.
It was all about what they were doing that was good. Not about what others were doing that was wrong. Hateful agendas have no valid response to this sort of thing.

The key difference is that he is just playing a game; where I’m inviting people to leave the games behind. They just divide; at a time when people need to pull together.
@griz I lost you. Who is just playing a game? Yeah we need to pull together. The counter-protesters are all walks of life. The women’s march the day after the inauguration had to be the largest march, world-wide that covered every social topic, had marchers of every race, creed and color. We have a president who has emboldened the neo-nazis, KKK and white nationalists in this country. The fact that you won’t acknowledge this boggles my mind. Did you notice the torch bearing crowd? They were all white males. Look at the counter-protesters man. That is the face of America, not the Tiki carrying chicken shits.

My observation is that counter-protesters are a natural consequence of modern protests. They are a natural consequence of how we have come to express social displeasure. One side expresses it; so why can’t the other? And then the first group expresses its displeasure at the displeasure of the second group. And so on.
The focus shifts from unified social change, to feelings. And it becomes a contest of who can fire the better emotional artillery across at the other.
