I’m a firm believer that having a pet allows us to practice being there for others. If you have a pet that is treated like a part of the family, you probably made a conscious choice to serve, because most pets rely on you for a lot.
This is Tucker who arrived around Christmas time. It didn’t take him very long to fit right in.
Thoughts about pets? PIctures?

Here in America(da boom spsss) we spoil our dogs, but then again we don’t need them to pull sleds(da boom spss),we have cars.
(it’s a sickness)
@luftballooneyegouge You have begun to remind me of a character on Last Man on Earth (NetFix) with this “boom” thing.
We should have Tucker ready for sleddin’ soon..we ususally wait until they’re 12 weeks, but rather than sleds, we have found that using small cars work better. They keep us out of the wind and we get to use the radio to keep up on potential thin ice conditions.
I see you as a hamster guy. Got anything you can practice your jokes on?
@spitfire3dc
Old pick-up & car hoods make awesome sleds.
@spitfire3dc
Hmm. One would need a LOT of hamsters to pull a sled full of your ice-fishing gear!
(And for those who don’t know, we don’t actually go fishing for ice. That comes to us in buckets, for we are “the land of plenty!”. That’s just the arena where the fishing takes place!)
@luftballooneyegouge
No spoiling going on here…
@Weenis
Don’t you live in Arizona?
I don’t count that as America with that flag!
@luftballooneyegouge
With what flag?
@Weenis
It’s a puzzle.
Use your context clues.
We have…
4 dogs
4 goats
2 pigs
Aaaaaaaannnnnd soon adding ducks.
@Weenis EI EI O…lol
@Weenis
That could prove confusing.
Does the cry of “duck” mean the livestock is loose — or some neighbor is just exercising their 2nd Amendment rights?
@griz
I don’t understand the point you’re attempting to make.
@Weenis
You can lead a horse to water but can’t make it wear a bathing suit.
big dog person. Lost our Kona late 2016 from cancer, he was 10 1/2.
Jax 3
Roxy 1
@Fletch They are smiling. Super cute. I had a cat named Jax. All black. He came to us named Jag, but that made us think of the dumb TV show. Jax was it. We lost Jax to cancer.
@Gina best buds, they are. This pic is Kona. He was my very best friend. I swear we talked to each other.
Jax’s name was from Sons of Anarchy. We actually thought Roxy was a boy when we got her, we didn’t really look too close. Once we figured it out, we changed Rocco to Roxy.
We once had 2 dogs and 8 cats (counting the front porch stray cats). They wear out and get old and die —- one at a time.
We have had 8 cats. We took in a horribly torn up cat this last Spring. He had a big gash in his throat that went through to his esophagus and I thought he would die from that wound. Knowing how painful it must be for him to swallow food, I feed him canned food. His coat had large holes, deep wounds, and bald spots. He was bone thin. We named him Midnight. Midnight had been abandoned to live on the streets. He was declawed on both front and back paws and his teeth are filed to nubbs. With no claws and useless teeth, he still has his balls and gets into fights with neighborhood cats. In the past 11 months, Midnight has healed and regrew a shiny black coat. He still comes in with wounds from fighting —– and comically has only one big white whisker left, but he has filled out into a big black panther of a cat. He is obedient and has very good manors. I have never had a cat that is as polite as Midnight is. He gets along with our other cats, so he is a keeper.
Now, we had to put down one of the beloved cats on Monday. Her name was Nya and she was our 3-legged cat. I miss the sound of her galloping through the house. Now we only have 7 cats. 7 cats!!! 7 years ago, if I knew someone with 7 cats, I would wonder what is wrong with this person? I even thought that of Immortal Pirate and his 7 cats and 2 dogs, but there is nothing wrong with having a big heart and giving strays a good home.
Here is Nya the 3-legged cat before she had to get her last shot that put her out of her pain and sent her over that Rainbow Bridge.
@ladybarbara Midnight last Spring. Skinny and torn up.
@ladybarbara Midnight now.
@ladybarbara Black Cats Rule!!!
@ladybarbara What happened?
@ladybarbara Never mind. I read your story. Thank you for taking care of the thrown away and forgottens. I can’t believe how mean people can be.
I offer these few words of wisdom: “Be kind to stray cats”.
Tucker looks tuckered out. I love labs. They are smart and gentle. What a delightful Christmas present.
We currently just have one pet, and that is Emma. We had to put her brother down a few years ago as he got incurable cancer. He was an all black kitty. We have had two black kitties and I want another, but Emma wouldn’t stand for it. She is the queen of the house, and yard…well…the whole block. All 9 pounds of her. She is a murdering machine, but sweet as can be. Her brother was my garden buddy, and she took over when he passed. She follows me around everywhere. When I bend over, she climbs on my back and purrs away. She has dots on her belly, and stripes all around. All her markings are symmetrical. She is quite the beauty.
We went without pets for one month, and I couldn’t stand it. The unconditional love is much needed daily.
When we need a doggie fix, we visit our friends who are on 10 acres, and they have 5 dogs. Speaking of dogs sledding, have you seen this one?
@Gina I just saw this one a couple of days ago. He looks like he knows how to have fun.
@spitfire3dc After a day and night of bad news, we watch Dodo on youtube. It’s only heartwarming stories involving animals. Go to bed with a smile and a happy heart.
@Gina We know this lady that started Therapeutic Paws of Canada. She started taking dogs to hospitals to visit patients years ago and now it is a national program she chaired. Pretty impressive woman in so many ways. Actions always speak louder than words.
@spitfire3dc Those are amazing programs. Believe it or not, but there are cats they use for the same thing. Nothing better than a purring cat in your lap. It benefits the animal and the human.
I couldn’t resist my Queen Emma pic. She has no idea we did this to her.
I am not posting this as a Dog vs Cat thing, I adore both; but this is really funny…and quite true.
we have a cat friend now. her name is Kissa which means cat in finnish. i usually call her Cat. she is kind of a confused badger. she was a nasty defensive thing when we met, would attack if you were near, was chased and hurt by several people and a dog, was treated poorly for a long time, and eventually came to be living with us. we cat sat for her when her people went out of town and when they asked if id keep her i said yes. because i knew she had it better with us. it was a set up but im not sorry, even though one of our couches always smells a bit unfortunate Thanks a Lot Kissa :D when she stayed with us, she adjusted within days. no more hissing when we came in a room, no more hiding and no more swatting. purrs, is safe to share a couch with. follows me around the apartment basically yelling at me all day :D she has even lost a bit of weight and doesnt attack anymore. you cant touch her stomach because she has trust issues still, but we respect that. she doesnt cuddle much, and thats probably good cause she is a bit massive. but she wants to be in the room with us and will lay beside me sometimes. basically she is well adjusted and happy in her life of laze here. she loves to rub against out feet when we are at the table. all in all she fits right in, as i dont like to cuddle much either :D she is company and we are probably good for each other. she LOVES the boy and although she doesnt like to cuddle with him, the minute he has gone to bed she cuddles with whatever he last sat near. we are family
ps LOVE tucker. Hello lovely family!
This was Shadow, my own personal companion for years. He went almost everywhere with me. He was very smart and well-trained. A few times he got loose from the shady location I would leave him in while I was at some event where pets were not allowed and rather than running off he would take up vigil at the doorway waiting for me to come out.
He was a pound rescue and for a lot of years had a rather vacant and neutral look about him. I took this picture shortly after I noticed he’d taken up smiling a lot!
He stayed with me over a decade, and was finally euthanized due to sudden and rapidly failing health.
