Quality of life

how would you rate your quality of life? what indicates to you a good quality of life? Do you expect that your quality of life will improve or decline in the next few decades? is there something you could do today that would improve your quality of life?

    On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it a 12!

I cannot see it decreasing as physical life progresses. Whether illusion of my own feelings, or actuality of the greater whole, I seem to have connected with something far greater than just self.

I can see both my part in it, and my choice in it.

Physical feelings will of course change with time. But this is like an anchor when at rest; a true course when in motion.

I cannot see that changing in the years, decades, or eons to come.

@griz wonderful news. I don’t know that I see the things you see or feel the things you feel, but I can definitely relate to the statement “something greater than self”. I spend lot of time consciously choosing to focus on that, and I find that I am happier.

It sounds to me like part of a similar process.

Everyone proceeds on it at a pace perfect for them.

I heard an excellent analogy once of a group climbing a mountain. Sometimes we race ahead to explore, route-find and share encouragement back down the trail; sometimes move in the main pack; and sometimes we pull up the rear to encourage stragglers.
None is more important than the others

I guess I see quality of life in a relative sense and that sense tells me that the quality I experience is better than most around me. To be able to walk into a grocery store with an empty cart and feel comfortable to put anything I want in it, with no restrictions or limits is something that continues to amaze me. I do not take it for granted and always feel a sense of appreciation.

I know enough people with extravagant lifestyles that I have no sense of envy towards. With that extravagance comes complexity and I prefer less complex wherever possible.

Although I feel like we have prepared for the long term, I still have concerns based on unexpected developments. Trump is not the least of those concerns.

I think the only thing I could do now to improve the quality of my life is to take up yoga. I have never been very flexible.

@spitfire3dc yeah, there is something to be said for having enough, not too much, not not enough, just enough. I always feel better the times in my life when I have enough.

“Enough” is a wonderful place to dwell! But it can be a very plastic concept: ranging all the way from just enough to survive, to enough to have toys and luxuries of varying degrees and even fresh flowers flown in from Hawaii every morning!

Both “too much” and “not enough” have a startling tendency to produce mindsets and behaviors indicative of dependency and addiction: where the person is identified by and the function of “the substance”.

But an interesting aspect of “not enough”, is that one has to learn to relate with the Providence that is all around us. It is a very good motivator to remain active alert and creative.

    It depends by what metric
    My OWN
    society’s
as compared to a 3rd world country
as compared to someone who is in perfect health
    All these are different.

Quality of life has leveled out with retirement. Something I could do today to improve my quality of life? Unclutter my bathroom counter top, Clean up the media room, and get out the carpet shampooer and do something about the hall carpet. Bringing a wild cat into the household that already had 7 cats, has caused the cats to mark territory. I have been waiting for the cat situation to calm down.

In the next few decades????? I am 70 years old right now. How many decades do I have left? I have insurances to cover my later senior years and my burial arrangements. Now, I just enjoy life and relax.

@ladybarbara I feel that, too. decreasing clutter in mind and physical environment increases quality of life!

A retiree with an uncluttered bathroom counter is like a day without sunshine!

Yikes with the cats! Be sure to check behind and underneath furniture for “messages”! I was a professional carpet cleaner for a short while and saw too many instances oh just what cat urine can do to carpet backing if it’s not cleaned right up.

A spray bottle of plain water is very effective at interrupting such activities from afar!

@griz Thank you! Great ideas! I have never before in my life had so many cats!!!!!! I am overwhelmed with them. One obese cat just puked on the floor while I am having my morning coffee — and I gag every time I think about getting up and getting a paper towel and cleaning that up. Cats gross me out. I will use a spray bottle to break up fights and I do move furniture when cleaning the carpet. I will look more carefully. Thank you, again.

i think i know how to improve it but i dont know for sure. its the when maybe? i think sometimes i have high quality of life and other times im working so much and so hard i miss focusing at all on that. this week i am pushing through, bruising too easily, grasping moments to rest and keeping it simple. this is not a good example. thank you for reminding me i deserve some goodness too

      revision;

sometimes i remember to seek beauty and peace and calm amidst the mess and paces.
thank you for asking this question. im glad i checked in tonight. on my walk home this was on my mind. under my slightly bent umbrella on a not quite cool october evening, listening to the calm sounds of rain and noticing the way the street lights shone through the fall trees, with leaves changed but not yet fallen, i remember that amidst it all there is beauty – i just have to be mindful, i just have to remember to be in the moment enough to notice it

now im home and all is quiet. im going to ignore the mess. i work in the morning. im going to make mint tea, have a shower, and go to bed. maybe in that order

      thank you

@BelleMadre the fact that you can even think about being mindful amidst the chaos is perhaps one of the greatest things that can bring us quality of life. Kind words backatcha. We are two aware women!
You are not alone in trying to do too much. I am often striving for balance in life.

I wonder if as a trucking guy, I could substitute “fine beers” for “fine soaps” and achieve similar effect?

Plus I can imagine my quality of life dropping off drastically if I asked another trucker if he would like to share a fine soap with me!
