My calming and renewing place was traveling to Northern California to Modoc and visiting Captain Jack’s Stronghold in the Lava Beds Monument where the Battle of Modoc took place in 1872, and where my ancestors lived in the caves there. I don’t know why that place is calming to my soul, but it is. Then there is traveling on the winding road of the Fandango Pass, where my Great Great Grandparents were killed by the Paiute Indians, and the view of the Surprise Valley —– which I have not visited for more than 20 years ago. The Modoc Indians, even those still living on the Twin Falls and Klammoth reservations, come to the Lava Beds and Captain Jack’s Stronghold to renew their spirits by walking the trails that our ancestors lived and fought on. I like to stand at Canby’s Cross and inwardly celebrate the unmitigated gall of the fiesty Captain Jack, whose name was Kintpuash, to shoot General Canby at point blank range. That spirit of the desire to be free of the Government still lives in every Modoc.
This year, we traveled the long car ride to Modoc. I did not get to do everything that I used to do in my younger years, but just touching base with the Lava Beds and walking the short trail through the “Battle” encampment part of the Stronghold was soul enriching. And standing at Canby’s Cross made me realize why freedom means everything.
My calming place is my backyard or my lake house. I have a pretty large backyard, so my dogs can stay active and healthy. Both places have my 2 Zen items, fire and water. I can chill with my dogs, meditate, read, listen to music, smoke some weed, and just slow things down. My mind is calm and my thoughts are positive.
My primordial ohm is humming along and everything connects.
Basically wherever I am with these 2, LIFE IS GOOD!
…weed, TV shows I watched as a shorter brat, & now alcohol.
It’s not a downward spiral, it’s sliding down a fireman’s pole,
… without the fireman’s pole.
