As the 4th largest city in America was drowning from Hurricane Harvey, Trump tweeted this early Sunday morning” “With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL. Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other.”
Mexico’s response to the president’s tweet was concise and consistent. On Sunday night the foreign ministry issued a formal statement. “As the government of Mexico has always maintained, our country will not pay for, under any circumstances … a wall or physical barrier built on US territory along the Mexican border.”
But the statement didn’t stop there, despite the American president’s insistence on the wall:
The Mexican government takes this opportunity to express its full solidarity with the people and government of the United States for the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, and express that we have offered the US government help and cooperation to be provided by different Mexican government agencies to deal with the impacts of this natural disaster — as good neighbors should always do in difficult times.
AND, the other group of people Trump loves to bash, Muslims – they have opened the doors of their Mosques to take in Hurricane Harvey victims. Muslim restaurants in the community have also been providing free food to those in the convention center, passing out hundreds of meals even as the hour grows late.
There are more good people than there are bad people in this world. It’s being shown in the state of Texas right now.

I saw a great picture recently of a black man taking a white women out her front door on a personal water craft.
I wondered what she was thinking as she was being rescued. I wonder what he was thinking as he drove in past the grand main foyer staircase.
I think they may have been thinking along the same lines. Thank you for saving me/happy to help.
I’m sure the furthest thing from each of their minds was I’m not going to let a black man save me, or I’m not saving a white woman. It was two people first and that is the way it should always be
@spitfire3dc There are so many acts of heroism going on right now. Check out this article on some of the heroes. Everyday people are risking their lives to help each other.

I may have ADD, asperger’s syndrome, and depression at times… but even I know that Trump’s timing was terrible!
Has anyone thought to check on all of George Strait’s exes???
@ladybarbara I know George Strait is a country singer, but that’s all. Does he have a slew of exes?
@Gina
@immortal_pirate Doh! That’s a good joke @ladybarbara !!! All my Exes live in Texas!!! Thanks for the clue. :)
Actually Mexico doesn’t even rank in the top 10 for violent crimes. And when you consider all crimes then United States and Canada have the highest crime rates in the world.( Huffington Post)
I thought the new secretary of state was supposed to keep your POTUS from talking out the wrong end of his. . . well you know.
It’s just become an accepted fact in the world that America’s leader emotes more than he thinks.
A wise response from Mexico would have been to not even mention the wall, and just offer their relief support.
Their position on the 100 foot, transparent, solar powered wall has been made known!
They don’t need to reiterate their position every time there is a brain fart from the White House.
@griz I know, our 45th has an issue with facts, and his administration has an issue with him tweeting without their knowledge. It’s like trying to control a ill tempered juvenile.
I just saw a picture of a kangaroo in Australia who can’t return to his home, because while he was away; a fence was put in his path. That’s one thing I loved about driving through Alberta, the beautiful bridges they built over the highways for wildlife to cross over. We need to build bridges, not walls. sigh…
@Gina @mj
I had a signal drop out and when it returned the input buffer lost my reply!
“Controlling a juvenile” sums it up.
There are times and places to support a child in the positions they will inevitably find themselves in.
But if you find one at the helm of your ship in challenging waters and can only voice your support at them from afar it can only mean one thing.
All the adults are incapacitated!
And whatever folly results will be on the heads of the adults who let the situation persist.
