I’m studying base biological character traits right now, (there’s 5 of them if you’re curious) and was wondering how much of a magnet sites like this are for creative people?
Personally, I think it’s very high — with most members exhibiting a high degree of trait-openness. That means they are more open to new ideas, to free-thinking, to consideration of new ideas, to flights of fancy. Creative people are more attuned to aesthetics; more likely to be intensely curious about things.
But most people are NOT creative. And some are, but cannot “afford” to be.
So what are your thoughts? Do forums like SS tend to become echo-chambers for creative people?
And if so . . . are we over-looking a much larger part of the population in the forum’s “curb appeal”?
Not everyone is artistically and creatively attuned. Are we being hospitable and welcoming enough when they do come by — or are we just crushing them and/or sending them on their way?
Bonus questions: How well do you think we “see” those who are not “us”? How tolerant are we of others who might not be “wired” the same way as us when it comes to basic human character and behavior traits?

I think forums have become places where one must make a conscious effort to bring positive into an environment of drudge. Forums have become places where people complain, because no one can stop them and it may be the only outlet for their frustrations.
Soul Pancake had a mandate to encourage positivity and when it was overwhelmed by bananaism, it became clear that people preferred the negativity to actively promoting positivity. Defending a negatively oriented, albeit bright, individual became a rallying cry and in hindsight, was the beginning of the end for that venue.
Soul Sequel is on the same track. There are a few who push a more positive agenda, but its hard not to be overwhelmed by the negative. Maybe because ignoring it doesn’t actively change it.
People are looking for a place with a bit of sunshine. I see mostly clouds here. I’d love it if the clouds parted and the sunshine that we know is there, would come through. I’ve seen the sun here and I hope it could show up more often. I can only take so much rain.

I was just hearing about University creativity surveys the past few days. They list between 7 and 12 examples of “creative enterprise” and ask people to score themselves on a scale from 0-10.
About 70% of people score themselves zero across the board. While creative process can include a “dark phase” it is generally a positive character-trait. So that means there are a LOT fewer creative and positive people in the world.
But EVERY single exercise of aesthetics or enterprise in Human experience. . . comes from these 30% of people. They are rare. They tend to function in the fringes. They are an absolute nightmare to manange and to “evaluate”.
But they are entirely responsible for the innovations that change[d] the world. Negativity has “quantity” on its side. But creative positivity has “quality” on its side.
Yes, it’s an effort to remain positive and creative. But I think it’s worth it.
(BTW, entrepreneurial enterprise is one of the aspects of creativity found on most “creativity surveys”! So like it or not, you’re “one of them”!)
In closing, there’s an old saying: “When people of conscience remain silent evil rules the day”. I don’t think it verboten to run with this a bit and say “When positive people remain silent, negativity rules the day”.

SoulSequel is the place that replaced SoulPancake when trolls ruined SoulPancake, but hateful trolls still get in here to ruin the attitude of this place. I come here to see a bit of the Liberal side, because in my normal world around me, I am surrounded by Arizonians that are conservative. In Arizona, Weenis is the average citizen type. My world is full of Weenises, as Arizona is conservative. The only Liberals I find are on this site. Sometimes the Liberals are hateful and demeaning and I have to go away in order to recover from the face slapping I have to endure here. It is the only hate filled site I visit. I often ask myself why I even come here. A person can only take so much and then I have to turn it off and go other places full of family, friends, and Weenis types that don’t insult me. Life is too short to hang around and be slapped by Liberals. I would rather get dressed up and go somewhere fun!!!

Personally I find your viewpoints and observations a valuable part of the mix. Labels (and particularly political labels!) are cumbersome, incomplete, irksome, combative. So take this in the most un-political context possible.
Where you reside is conservative, and I see conservative behavior-traits in both of you. But I also see the openness and creativity of the more liberal behavior-traits. Personally, I’m liberal — but see the value of what the more conservative positions are trying to preserve.
In a way, you two (and yes, @Weenis!) were a part of the onus for this thread. Seeing the world through different eyes doesn’t have to boil down into right and wrong, informed and stupid, left and right. You help keep this from becoming just a 1-sided echo-chamber for the uber-liberals.
And consider that while some trolls are truly clueless instinctive beasts, changeable on a dime for the pure sake of causing dissention (and the ones that ultimately shut down SP were literal robots!) . . . MOST of them are ideologues of liberalism out to silence voices that don’t just echo back self-affirmation.
And on more conservative groups, many of the trolls are liberals desperate to affirm their position against “the enemy”.
Yes, yes, I think we overlook people.
I also think about people’s unlocked potential. There is a whole world out there to be discovered, outside the confines of what we already know. And every person has a whole world in them. Most people don’t unlock them. Usually, something has to happen to them, an event for them to be unlocked. Sometimes, it is one particular person that holds a key to unlock them and once it is unlocked, you can never go back. Mine was unlocked at the river bank. Where was your world unlocked?

Actually in a lecture today I was hearing that not all — but most — creative people . . . are “unlocked” by trauma! Yikes! Something terrible happens that cannot be dealt with by vertical thinking, so those few who DO have the wiring to think laterally . . . do so as a self-preservation tactic.
So mine was quite literally, unlocked by the trauma of parental abuse.
(Which is why in the threads asking if you would change any “evil” in your past would you, I say “No”. Because that was my starting-point of discovering all of the good things in me that are realized today.)
I think we overlook people just because they think, perceive and behave in a way we don’t. I’m thinking here specifically of trait-conservatism and trait-liberalism. (having nothing to do with politics). And I’m pondering how we might make this rather liberal forum, into something more welcoming and accommodating to trait-conservatives?
The Native Medicine Wheel has the North and Souths allied in trait-conservatism, and the East and West allied in trait liberalism. And the path to wisdom involves walking first to the unexplored side of your “familiar”, then the “foreign” direction that is most alike your starting gift: and then finally to the “foreign” that is the most unalike your starting gift.
Only then can one take up a position at the center, and move any direction at a whim to deal with any imbalance.
