What holds your happiness?

Everyday I put my sandals on
And awaken to…cold rain
Out my door and all around and for all time it rains and grows shades of dark and darker
Here are some photographs
that prove that winter beds do grow larger and lonelier than summer ones
My hands hurt when I go outside
Every day I wait for spring
She is the holder of my happiness
When I see her I’ll jump up and down
Like a bunny rabbit
Like a small child full of possibility
She’ll bathe my life in flowers
We’ll waltz in the sunlight
And eat popsicles under the moon

I would like to add that we may be speaking metaphorically here.
It is my understanding that I control my own happiness.

Very good poem. Belief holds my happiness, internally decimating negativity and imagining a better world. The idea of myself and others like me being seen for who we are inside, instead of these shallow masks we wear of mere flesh and blood.

@five2one agreed. We are all imaginary people living imaginary lives

@Scarlett Hehehehe… oh, not me, I am very much in the flesh, and it has been one wild view. I am used to just silently watching things, from my past, when I was spirit. I think what comes to mind most is when Abraham almost killed his son.

But, I see a lot of things. Everything, all at once, all the time, since the beginning.

I suppose a lot of us do.

But, the flesh is very real… and strange. Why? I am trying to figure it out. We are so fragile and weak, but can change that by faith. That must be why.

        Perhaps.

Spring appears to hold some of my happiness. It’s been a dreary winter for the most part, especially with the constant deluge of global news that is anything but positive.

We had two days of brilliant sunshine and unseasonably warm weather, yesterday and the day before. My mood was the best its been since winter began in earnest. I discovered that I really needed the offerings of Spring-like weather.

Going beyond that to answer your question; I think my happiness is held by knowing that people I love…and even to some extent people I just like, are happy. If those closest to me are experiencing challenges, I find it tough to be happy about my own circumstances.

I’m a firm believer that happiness is an extension of contentment and I suppose I choose to worry about others if I have nothing to worry about myself. It might be for this reason that I try to avoid getting too close to people. It seems that these days, so many have serious issues they have to contend with. Progress seems to have a downside when viewed in comparison to what seemed like simpler times.

Had to read the poem again to give me a lift. It did.

Like a delicate flower, you wait for Spring. You were made for sundresses, swirling and dancing in the sunlight.

What holds my happiness is nurturing and watching the result of my work. The torn and tattered stray cat comes to me to feed his skinny bones. A year later, he has healed and filled out. He is a majestic cat. The roots and seeds I put in soil and watered, now sprout, as they reach out for Spring. Later on, the plants will flower and fruit. The trees will fill out, flower and provide fruit. The garden thanks me for my gift of nutrients and water. The bees buzz around the flowers I planted. I love Spring.

I really like that picture. Tv shows/movies, games, music, and certain people. I never personally understood the whole “I control my happiness” thing. I get it on a more general realistic level, but it just never happened in my life. People or their art. That is where my happiness is.

@yin I like to think of this like
Leonard Cohen- if you don’t become the ocean, you’ll
      Be seasick
      Every day…

@Scarlett I’m sure I understand what you meant by that, but I can also read it where it sounds like if I don’t make other people depressed, I’ll be depressed, lol. Someone is getting seasick, but I can have it or be the one to give it to them. Everyday that I don’t get my share of people/art, yea, it feels like a sickness. Sucks, but it is just how it is. I don’t know how to be happy without them. I don’t know how to get it from myself or in this kind of world. It is why I like people and their work. They take me out of it all. They bring me to different worlds.
