With a husband too ill to be of any help, other than holding the ladder still while I climbed it with roofing shingles, I re-roofed our house. It was in June, July, and August of 2001. It was a true test of a marriage. I had to rip off three layers of old roofing, remove old nails, and repair a few old boards. I was racing against time. I knew it was going to take me months to complete the job. A few neighbors tried to help, but it was taking on too much for them. One teen boy got angry and threw a hammer at my glass patio table. He was invited to leave and never come back. In the end, I was utterly alone. Neighbors would wave and see how far I was in the job, but no one wanted to work in the hot sun. After falling off of the roof a few times, I developed a fear of falling off of the roof. By the time the September winds and sprinkles came, my roof was finished. I will never ever do that again in my life.
this summer i decided that since i couldnt afford to pay someone to help me dispose of a broken couch that was taking up too much of our living room, i would dismantle it and haul it out my own self.
ya i tried anyway :D i did get the couch out, and in a few pieces. new respect for people who build things :D have to say it was satisfying tearing away the ruined cover, and ripping out what nails i could. gave it a few good smashy kicks too before dragging its pieces out to the elevator and down to the bin. cant leave furniture beside the bin or it costs the building money to remove. and me if they figure out who left it. so i got it into enough parts to leave it in the discard pile properly. pulled a few muscles, tore some skin and broke a hammer but gotter done :D
i did it cause we deserve to live in a living room that is hospitable and doesnt look like a furniture dump landed in one corner :D and i did it myself cause at the time i was down to minimal hours and trying to save dollars.
