What’s the strangest recurring drea m you’ve ever had?

For awhile when I was in college I kept dreaming I had missed a half a semester of classes of a subject I needed to take in order to graduate. The weird part of the dream is that I actually WAS attending class… but I attending the wrong one and no one realized the mistake until that point.

The main word is recurring. Same dream over and over. That would be a dream I had when I was young enough to be in diapers and not walking, yet. I had dreams that I was a woman and I was in either a horse drawn carriage, or a Model A automobile, and I was driving it and putting a few miles between me and the angry man I was getting away from.I was wearing a long busseled dress with tall lace-up shoes. I felt the bussel at my butt on the seat. I was going over a bridge and looked back over my shoulder to see if he was chasing me. The whole rig ran into the bridge railing and went over the side into the water. I got out of the carriage or car and tried to swim, but my skirt was twisting around my legs. Then, the shoe lace from one shoe got hooked in the eyehook of the other shoe. My ankles were caught together and I could not swim with my feet bound up to one another. Then my lungs began to burn and my sinuses burned —- as i woke up!!!

I would lay in bed and look at my hands and then raise my feet to look at my feet. I was in a diaper and shoeless, but I had the deep impression that I was a cowboy. Grandma would come to see if I was awake and check my diaper. I would have the thought that this was a terrible predicament for a cowboy to be in. Grandma would hand me a warm bottle of milk while she changed my diaper. I would contemplate that as soon as I could get a horse, I am going to ride right outta here.

When I was old enough to learn to walk, Mom bought me a pair of white Dr. Scholls shoes. I hated when they were laced around my ankles. All of my life I have hated anything that laces tight around my ankles.

I don’t know why my dream was of being a frightened woman and drowning, yet, in my waking hours, I knew beyond all doubt that I was a cowboy. I kept on having that dream. Even two years later I was still dreaming of being that fleeing woman and drowning. Mom would put me in a baby play yard and I was very angry. NOBODY puts this rootin-tootin cowboy in a play yard!!!

I thought I was a boy —- an old cowboy —- until I was 4 years old and my brother pointed out that the reason I could not pee against the garden fence (without making my shoes wet with pee) was that I was a girl and missing a tallywhacker. What kind of a cowboy am I without the most basic equipment that one needs to be male?!?! The drowning woman dream began to fade away when I was around 4 years old.

When I was old enough to learn to dance on roller skates at the roller rink, my skate boots were tall and had about 6 of those shoelace hooks at the top. I refused to lace them at the hooks. I took pliers and pinched the hooks closed. My dance teacher said my skate boots looked “sloppy”, not laced all the way up. Then, I settled for a pair of boy’s skates with a lower cut boot. I still pinched the top lace hook closed and refused to lace my boots all the way up. WHY??? Because of the panic I felt in that dream when I could not swim because the lace of one shoe was caught in the lace hook of the other shoe.

Now, in my life, I have a few pairs of combat boots. I still pinch the lace hooks flat with pliers and most of the time I wear my combat boots untied with the laces lose. The pair with the side zipper are worn with the zipper down —— unless there are snakes and scorpions anywhere around me.

  2. I have a lot of dreams where I am in some manner of school. Another scenario is where I am at a conference I got to, in Las Vegas. A very impactful other ‘often reoccurring dream’ *segment* is flying. Usually, the situation will be there is a lot of people and I find I am trying to say, “the world really is much more then what you can see” — then, I jump, and end up flying. The sensation is the knowledge that people will see this and instantly understand that there is magic.

But, actual same dream? No. Not that I can recall. Segments or events like the above happen in many dreams.

Hotels are common, as are apartments. Getting lost while trying to get back home is another scenario which is very common for me.

There are plenty of times I am inside a dream and recall “as if” some event or situation has happened before, but whether that is simply a false memory or not, I do not know. In real life, of course, memory is a critical part of it. So, it makes sense that dream worlds would have their own memory. Even if that being remembered never really happened.

False memories in dreams, that is, enhance the seeming reality of them.

I was told by my aunt that I had a recurring dream when I was younger where I was being chased. My aunt to me to confront them. I did. It was me. The dreams stopped after. I’m not sure how legitimate that story is though. I haven’t had recurring dreams outside of that. I have had some where I’d wake up from it and fall back to sleep into it again, but it wasn’t restarting. It was about where I left off.

i havent had any of my usual reoccuring dreams for a long time now. so i think ive over come the issues?! maybe!

    Trigger warning maybe …

so one that i used to have a Lot (in times when i was in a couple/relationship) … but i havent had this dream in about a year … (maybe cause happily single or maybe cause im somewhat healed?! ) so in the dream, i am stuck in a house, and i need to find a way out before the danger reaches me (the danger in these dreams could be a shadow or a person or a group of people who have turned against me). but every time i leave a room, i enter another exactly the same. room after room after room. sometimes i figure out how to fly out of windows but they just lead to other similar hallways or even through ceilings i end up in more rooms. hiding doesnt do any good… so i just keep moving til i find a way out. usually at some point as the danger is really close, i am able to find the right window to break through and then i make it into the garden and i have to get up high enough to be safe… usually i escape

pretty plain symbolism there i think

when i was a kid i would have one where i had to save my siblings from some thing or other by piggy backing them away, and once we were clear they would sort of dissipate and itd be just me moving forward.

now i mostly dream about things i need to do, or about people who are often on my mind.

these dreams will revisit us until we resolve within our selves. ..
