What was it like?
For me I’d say it was a toss up between mixing spaghetti and meat sauce with split pea soup, tuna casserole with rice instead of noodles, and a nigh infinitely growing pot of 10 bean soup.
The first wasn’t bad and third was great for the part I kept; I made minestrone out of it – but the rest I ended up giving away a batch to the homeless shelter and some ham bones and told them to stretch it out with water and cook it longer… I wonder how long it took them to get rid of it), but the 2nd I had to throw out, as it was inedible

ahaha the word concoction ooo when we were kids we used to mix a bunch of stuff together that we would call Concoctions and then get our sister to drink it. she would too with no cajoling or threats. we were terrible :D so i guess the weirdest of those days was like salad dressing guava juice and toothpaste. hey we were like 9 and didnt know better? poor excuse i know !
the split pea casserole sounds ok to me, sometimes you gotta put meals together out of what is available right? once i combined gnocci and squash soup and it was damn delicious and is now a fall favourite around here.
@BelleMadre it was my very first adventure in cooking. All because I couldn’t stand my mom’s nasty mac and cheese (I now know what it takes to do the real stuff and her version just doesn’t cut it! You need to make a bechemel sauce, use REAL cheese – not the processed stuff… AND to make it better you add breadcrumbs on top and bake it.)
@Jear77 if i make it for my son and his friends i use velvetta which apparently makes it the best :D but i also put real cheese in it. definitely bake it!
@BelleMadre my mom uses processed cheese SLICES – ***not*** velveta!
This week I bought really large pasta shells. I made meatballs and put one meatball in each of the cooked pasta shells. Then I covered it in the cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese. We ate it, but agreed that it was a stupid idea. It was sloppy to eat and I realized that I don’t like cheese on beef — it reminds me of the taste of cheeseburgers, which I hate.
I often combine some meat or casserole dish with another casserole or skillet dish. If it looks like it will go together, it becomes a whole new skillet meal, or soup. My Grandma used to combine things at the end of the week. She called it — “Shuddup and eatyershare”
What a save! I cut the meatballs in large pasta up in smaller pieces and covered the pieces in Three cheese spaghetti sauce and it tasted great. It was a good way to make a cooking nightmare into something good.
@ladybarbara Adding the tomato sauce was the trick. Great save.
