…where do you go to find your happy place?
I have many places, and one is looking at recipes and making something delicious to eat. I just found this women’s site where she makes pie/art. My two favorite things. Pie and Art.
Check it out.

and if i Really need a lift, getting outdoors does it for me
@BelleMadre Yes, my zen places too.
@Gina my walks home from work are essential. its the 25 minutes of peace and outdoors, time to myself, even if i am in motion. motion is like meditation for me. sometimes i listen to music. i see the same faces every day. very neighbourly. the man with the amazingly cheerful smile and the non chalant dog :D but my day is done, the walk is my me time. to blow off steam, process, and regroup before my evening with my son. i love those walks, rain or shine, snow or puddles. today i took the bus because i havent been feeling well. and i was so run down when i got home i had to have a nap. i missed my walk.
@BelleMadre Motion is lotion for the joints, the mind and the soul. Gotta keep moving. Gotta keep moving. I haven’t been good to my body the past year, and it shows in so many ways.
Working in my garden. Taking a long soaking hot bath. Then there are times that I realize that Immortal Pirate has hogged the TV for most all of the time —- with movies and shows that depict violence, or his dorky sci-fi that bores the hell out of me. He has total control of the channels and I feel like a “hostage”. At times, I get into a deep funk and start wishing that I could be back in my California house —- where the TV was all mine 7/24. That is when I go into the bedroom and watch chick-flicks and anything non-fiction and science based. I shut out the world and enjoy “me time”.
@ladybarbara Sounds like you need your own TV, and a little chat with your partner about a sweet word called: Compromise. :)
@Gina I do have a TV in the bedroom and a chair set up to give me a comfortable place to duck out of coupledom for some “Me time”. I have that feeling that every wife of a retired male has. He is always there. I cannot get anything done with him lurking around. I am sure that he feels the same —- I am always here. I think it is a syndrome of the retired. We had a talk and do have that same talk from time to time.
That is too easy of a question for me, I go to my friends. I have two primary friends who have established deep lines between this world and the world that manages this world, beyond the doors, beyond the veil.
It helps that they can also fly around and kick some ass.
What usually gets me down is just human blindness and evil they store in their hearts for each other and me.
I *am* Peter Pan, and they are anti-Peter Pan. Or, waylaid to work for Captain Hook.
@Gina, Caramel Apple pie, it looks good.
@immortal_pirate Did you check out the link and view the other pies? This woman is amazing!
@Gina Yes. Thanks for posting this.
On a personal level, I am in ok standings with the world. As for my overall state, well, I have stated that enough probably. While it may not really lift me, things like music, superhero shows/movies/comic stories, comedy, and good wrestling kind of give me some padding down here, lol. They are going all kinds of crazy with the hero stuff. I was going to starting listing some of them for some reason, but that would take a lot of unnecessary space up. Just, I’m glad there are so many to help keep my mind balanced with all of the trash that is happening in the world. Fell in love with a new show recently though. iZombie. It is based off of a comic from DC as well, but it isn’t superhero related. It is a about a woman who got turned into a zombie and needs to eat brains to stay normal and keep from becoming a total mindless zombie. She was a nurse, ends up in a morgue so she can eat the brains of people who are already dead. The brains she eats, she gets the personality traits of them and gets some visions from them. Works as a psychic with a detective to help solve the murders in the morgue. I’m sure I laughed way too much at the three seasons on Netflix. It is also nice when songs even about depression help.
@yin I am escaping into the world of Wakanda tonight! The late night show. I am so excited!!!
Yeah, you love music like I do. I will take a listen to this song in a bit. I am chilling to Sweet Honey in the Rock right now.
Oooh, iZombie. I will check that out too. It’s filmed in one of my favorite cities, Vancouver.
@Gina Very nice. Hope you enjoy it. The spoiler-free reviews I saw seemed to be overwhelming positive.
I never saw where it was filmed. Lol, it is suppose to be set in Seattle, but they do that with a lot of shows.
I’m actually sad I found this song after posting what I did. A mashup of Everlong by Foo Fighters and a Bobby Caldwell song, which I admit I never heard the song before. Love the voice, and it is awesome the fact one person can do a whole song/mashup by themselves using looping.
@yin A lot of shows are filmed in Vancouver BC and they pretend it’s elsewhere. I have actor friends there, and one of them works on Super Girl. Riverdale is filmed there too among many other shows. It’s cheaper than Hollywood for some reason.
@Gina Oh, nice. I enjoy Supergirl. Seems like every show on CW and possibly Syfy is filmed in Canada. At least, the shows I watch on both are/were. I think it has to do with some tax credit. Looked it up, seems to be that and something to do with the Canadian dollar being weaker. People also say that the Vancouver can imitate locations in the US and that the scenery is beautiful with all of the trees and lakes. I get it. I mean, it’s unfortunate that Hollywood and the US can’t pull in some of that business as well, but I get it.
Nature is where I go if the fat is all the way in the fire and I beyond my reach. Even a small patch of green will do in a pinch.
Consider though that a part of self-realization is to continually move the control of our feelings away from the external to the internal. (Self control)
Without this one remains controlled by their emotions if the outside controller is denied us.
@griz For sure man. Even just looking out the window and watching the birds feed off my trees, and take baths in the birdbaths sets my mind at ease. Nature is my church.
I’ve always been a fan of harmony. From Paul and John to The Beach Boys to The Cranberries to symphonic orchestrations to the sound of waves and wind composing their own vibe in the environments I am sitting in.
I find my happy place when I am purposefully trying to be enveloped in the harmony.
I think there is a very real, tangible dynamic that is good for us and more importantly All. Mother Earth contributes in tangible ways. Did you know being barefoot on open ground has health benefits? Do you realize how few people, purposefully, even do such a simple thing, preferring a boot and concrete?
If more people would find the grooviness of walking barefoot; we might be able to build the harmonies that Nature so gladly provides. Ahhh the 60’s. Peace on Love.
@spitfire3dc I am a California Girl, so going barefoot was a natural thing. I lived at the beach for 6 years and didn’t own running shoes, but I was a runner. I ran on the sand by the water. Now that I am in a wet, colder environment; I am not barefoot as often. But I agree, it’s important to have the bare feet touch the ground daily. I get this fix in when I do yoga (thank goodness I started yoga again)…I do yoga barefoot.
Here is a beautiful song by Sweet Honey in the Rock with a scene of where I ran for 6 year with no shoes. :) Imagine running along this shore. Breath…deep breath in, exhale slowly…
