When was the last time you were unabashedly selfish?

I think human by nature are pretty selfish. Do you agree? I believe it takes effort and consideration to think of others. Even if it may come naturally for some, it’s unlikely to be our default (biological?) position.

But anyway, when was the last time you did something completely for yourself because you wanted to? What was it? Also, “HI” everyone, it’s been a while.

Happy Friday y’all.

This place is my unabashedly selfish spot and I agree, by nature, humans are inherently selfish.

Here, I write for me. It may be directed towards a point someone else is making, but my answers are more for me to know what I am thinking. I have found, unless I tried to write it down coherently, that I have difficulty taking a thought to completion without going off on tangents within. Ideas are always ricocheting around inside my skull and I use this place to try and fully form complete thoughts.

Oh, and yesterday, when I shared the last slice of apple pie, I took the bigger piece…but I asked first…in a way that tried to influence my preference.

Selfish is our default nature. It is our point of identification with all other “lower” animal species. They live just for their own needs.

We cannot make it go away; but we can control it so it doesn’t control us.

I’m heading home for a vacation! For the first time since Christmas I will have more than 3 days to do with what I need and wish. This is going to be unabashedly selfish time.

But chances are good that after just a few days of this, I will once again start looking to the needs of those around me . . .
    :unamused:

I used to be so good at being totally selfish, oblivious to all needs but my own. It was a rare gift; bordering on genius!

    I don’t know what happened.

I musta’ growed up or something.

Last February, when I suddenly sold my house. My renter had said for the last 5 years that Immortal Pirate and I should settle on either the California house, or the Arizona house and be together. Especially after she met him and saw what a great guy he is. She said that she wouldn’t let a guy like him go, if she could find a guy like him. Yet, she was happy as long as I was spending half of each month in Arizona and leaving her to have the whole California house all to herself. When the house sold, it sold all at once and escrow closed within 2 days. Then the house was sold and the new buyer wanted us out of it, as soon as he could force us out. That meant that my renter had to move — without any advanced notice!!!

Yeah, she got really angry and mean about not having written notice in advance. She swore that she will be taking me to court to sue me. She was nasty and screaming at me everyday for that last few weeks. Each time I went out the door to get something, or do something, she would lock the doors and lock me out of the house. She was fighting with me every time she saw me. The way I react when someone starts yelling at me is to shut off and ignore them. I selfishly ignored her rants. I quietly cleaned my house walls and packed —- without giving her recognition that she was in a frightened rage. She did not have any prospects of places to move that would throw in free rent, free utilities, free television and free internet. She was half heartedly packing with the hope that she would not have to move, if the new owners would let her keep her room, renting it to her. The new owner had a big family and said that he was going to change the locks on the day I move out. Still, on my moving day, she had NOT moved her bedroom furniture out of her room. After the moving van was packed with my furniture and boxes, I simply got in my car and drove away. I did not bother to say good-bye to my renter. I had known her for 27 years. I don’t offer to be nice to someone who yells at me for two solid weeks. I drove away.

As soon as I was gone, the new owner of the house CHANGED THE LOCKS and moved in. Vivi was only allowed to go in to what WAS once her room and get her paperwork, but the furniture was now he property of the new owner. I selfishly did not care. Vivi had warning and had two weeks to clear her stuff out of that bedroom. She did not do it. That is her loss.

I suppose that I will get summoned to go to court and face whatever punishment and fines the court imposes. But, if someone treats me nasty, that person ceases to exist in my bubble world. I drop them and go on with my life. Selfish as that is —- oh well.

Last Saturday, my mom was in the emergency, and I told her to take an Uber home. Just kidding. I thought of it, but of course I didn’t. Hhhmmm, when was the last time I did something completely for myself? I made Eggplant Parmesan, and I am the only one in the house who likes it. It’s mine, mine, mine!!! Me, me, me!!!!

    Regrettably, right now!

    @mj

The site has glitched and I cannot scroll up to newer conversations and the “compose message” button. It’s like this on my home computer and the mobile app.

I also couldn’t contact you through the “members” page to send a public or private message. It looked like a formatting issue: fonts too large, running over each other, input fields inaccessible.

    Sorry! :frown:

@griz this has happened to a few accounts before…mine included and unfortunately I haven’t been able to pinpoint the issue.

I will take care of it, but please let me know if it ever happens again. I’m so sorry, I know how annoying it can be! I’ve had to fix my account about 5 times already.
