I was in the kitchen this morning trying to do several things at once. Scramble eggs, fry sausage, wash dishes, fill the dishwasher, brew coffee, make my ginger-gel soup, brew a cup of matcha tea, clean the slow cooker, and put chicken in the slow cooker (crockpot) to season and cook. It seemed like Kung-fu fighting. Where is the love? It seemed to be a rush to do this and do that, and do this other thing and get it ready all at once. Then it occurred to me that there is only one song about kung-fu fighting, while I was kung-fu cooking.
You’re right…there’s only one Kungfu fighting song. If memory serves me right, Kungfu Fighting came out during the height of the Disco era, which in turn reminds me of when I worked at PetSmart. They were playing disco music over the sound system…all day long. At lunch time I confronted the guy in charge of the sound system and asked him if he knew what era followed the disco era…He didn’t know, so I reminded him that it was the era of postal employees shooting their co-workers with automatic weapons. Then I politely requested that he lose the disco music.
When we all went back to work after lunch, the music coming out of the speakers was country and western.
@Immortalpirate When I worked at Sullins Electronics, they were playing classical music over the sound system. A slow song slowed down the work lines. I suggested more popular songs and the work line speeded up. Country and Western was better than classical. But when we wanted the Mexicans on the crimp line to do better work, we played their Mariachi music.
It does seem like most of them are about relationships? Perhaps that is what is on people’s minds more than anything else so they write about it as a creative outlet.
I think there are so many love songs because love feels really personal. We only ever experience our own version of it. Songs give people a way to say what it felt like, even when it’s messy or painful.
