When I saw this, my response was amusement and interest. Both Canada and the US are “children of Britain” — but we are the child who remained on good terms with the parentals.
So the prospect of their wanting to re-join officially with us (not asking us to re-join with them) is interesting to say the least.
But the interesting question is, that if the US might be missing the global boat with the increasing isolationism of late? Wouldn’t it be interesting if, while they drew back into their shell, Canada gained access to all the power, financial clout, and loyalties of all “the colonies” that are still on good terms with the parentals?
And this would happen while most Americans are totally distracted with whatever antic or 10 ol’ P.F.W. POTUS tweets out today!

My gut, based on current events, is that Canada is on track to become the great nation that America, at the grass roots, wants to be.
We seem to be on two dramatically different tracks than the US. We are embracing globalization in what appears to be an understanding of association that supports a together we’re better approach, while the US is trying to prevent leakage of their accumulated wealth, which might in fact be justifiably described as more of a credit in the accounting sense of the word. Maybe it’s better to distance ourselves economically from an implosion waiting to happen.
TransAtlantic shipping is an obstacle but not a deterrent. THe efficiencies in shipping from China and the benefits to Vancouver could be a boon to our Maritimes and access through the St Lawrence could mean huge benefits along the economic fronts. Automotive would take a hit, but beyond that, increasing trade with Britain could be a huge bonus. I mean they speak English over there, don’t they?
